At Comic-Con The Hollywood Reporter gathered the casts of Batman vs Superman and Suicide Squad and sat them down for a class portrait that reinforces what I said about the dynamics during the WB/DC Hall H panel—while the Suicide Squad cast seems fun, the cast of Superhero Face Punch would really like to get back and finish their class project. I was not expecting to like Magic Mike XXL, let alone love it, but I do kind of love it. What I like about Magic Mike is that it looks like a smutty movie but really it’s about the frustration of the American Dream, although based on the number of times Lainey has complained about Magic Mike being too talky, I think I may be alone in appreciating that it’s actually a fairly character-driven film. Magic Mike vs Terminator this weekend at the box office – which way are you going? Here are some interesting comparisons:
Magic Mike XXL was made for just under $15 million while Terminator Genisys cost $155 million. For Channing Tatum, then, it’s really not that much pressure compared to the other guy. According to Deadline, last night at screenings of Magic Mike XXL across the US “96% of Magic Mike XXL‘s audience was comprised of females — that’s the biggest female share ever”. And of that number, 34% of fans were there for Channing Tatum. I can understand this. He’s one of the reasons I’ll be going at some point too. Because I do enjoy, so much, watching him dance. And also, I just like him so much. Another reason? Magic Mike is one of those movies that you don’t have to worry about missing any dialogue during the hootin’ and the hollerin’. It’s a form of relaxation isn’t it? Listening to people requires so much more energy.
Have a great weekend!

SCOTUS has just ruled in favour of same sex marriage. The Hollywood Reporter posted a story yesterday about Hollywood’s “stromos”, identifying a Hollywood trend among straight actors appealing to the gay audience: Today's stromos are the flip side of gay actors who want to read straight for their careers: They are straight actors striving to read gayish to optimize their appeal — and maximize the number of butts, gym-molded or otherwise, in movie theater seats. The cast of Magic Mike XXL was in Miami yesterday promoting the movie. They surprised the audience at one of the screenings too, showing up for some bump and grind. As you can see, Channing Tatum, the big star, the main event, got his ass in on some action too. When I was looking at these shots and reading about the event, I thought about Marky Mark. Full Story
Channing Tatum covers the new issue of PEOPLE.
Sexy, Sweet, Stripperific!
That’s how the online headline reads. And then he goes on to talk about how much his wife and daughter mean to him; he also shares that his proudest moment in life was watching Jenna Dewan give birth and that the first thing he does every morning when he wakes up is check on his baby. Isn’t that so sexy, sweet, and stripperific?!?!
In the top corner…The Bachelorette.
I don’t watch this show, not one episode. But I do know that everyone’s losing their sh-t this week because she slept with one of the men. And is being slut-shamed for it. The quote that’s used for the inset is “Maybe I went too far”. Because she’s expected to apologise for being on a show about dating and having sex with one or maybe more of the men she’s supposed to, maybe, begin a serious relationship with.
The juxtaposition is glorious, non?

How does he do this?! It is just impossible to not like Channing Tatum. My heart is made of second-hand smoke and the last inch of bourbon in the bottle and even I can’t hold out—Tatum has totally won me over. He may be a walking slab of abs and Mr. Potato Head’s face, but goddamn if he isn’t the most likeable dude in Hollywood these days. Full Story

Channing Tatum today promoting Magic Mike XXL. Which is an improvement on Magic Mike. In that, well, my complaint about Magic Mike was like, really?, you’re going to do character development on this? In an interview this weekend with the Plymouth Herald, Channing talked about putting together Magic XXL and the approach to making the film: "We read the message boards and they were like, 'Less story, more dancing', so we take direction well. Magic Mike XXL is coming. And that’s actually how they want you to refer to it. Come again. Well I almost came from reading Channing Tatum’s AMA on Reddit last night. Not because he made me horny but because he just made me like him so much, he always makes me like him so much. And this is exceptional because celebrities are just so goddamn unlikeable so often. Really enjoyed JLO’s sassy moment with the Magic Mike cast last night. That’s how I like my JLO served. Like all boss. Everything. The outfit. The hair. The legs. While she was up there, it was desperate, my attempt to force her to open her eyes. To possibility. THIS IS WHAT YOU SHOULD BE LOOKING FOR. Full Story

In January, the cast of Paul Feig’s all-female Ghostbusters reboot/sequel/whatever was announced, and for the most part, everyone was excited about a lady ghostbusting squad. For the most part—there were some whiny diaper baby man-tears shed over women getting their period blood all over the uber-masculine (eye roll) cultural relic that is Ghostbusters. Full Story
They released the poster yesterday. And, well, I mean it’s about as subtle as a dick nudging you in the face. Channing Tatum is going to come, OK? Goddamn. Me too. Like, I was never into Magic Mike the first time. But…it’s this song… In the teaser trailer that’s now blowing up on Twitter. Full Story

Well this says everything, doesn’t? Think about last year’s Vanity Fair Hollywood issue and who was on the cover. Or, better yet, look at this year’s cover featuring Amy Adams, Channing Tatum, and Reese Witherspoon and then compare it to last year’s here: Full Story
