So while Jennifer Aniston’s trying to avoid a Norbit situation with Horrible Bosses 2 and Cake, Julianne Moore is out there selling The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 while holding the top spot for a Best Actress nomination for her work in Still Alice. Mockingjay is a sure thing. So Julianne will be able to ride on the fact that she’s part of a blockbuster and at the same time showing the voters that she’s one of the best, one of most under-appreciated, in one of her finest performances, maybe her finest performance. Full Story

How’s this for a great photo call and red carpet? Mockingjay is expected to be the biggest movie of the season. And it’s being represented on the press tour by a predominantly female cast. The Hunger Games is in London. Yesterday was the photo call with Julianne Moore, Elizabeth Banks, and Natalie Dormer. Full Story

“I think she’s the best actress in the world right now” – what Jacek just said to me while I was watching the first trailer for Tim Burton’s Big Eyes about Amy Adams. And he was only listening. He didn’t even see her on the screen. But ever since American Hustle, which he compulsively plays on re-run, he’s been her #1 fan. Full Story

Have you seen Boyhood yet? One of the best films of the year, if not THE best film of the year. And Patricia Arquette gives an incredible performance. Joanna sent this article to me today - even though Arquette’s role in Boyhood is a lead, IFC Films will be submitting her for Oscar consideration in the Best Supporting Actress category instead. Full Story

Maps To The Stars: TIFF Review

Maps to the Stars is arguably the most polarizing film of the year, but it's one you should see, if you can stomach it. David Cronenberg’s provocative portrayal of Hollywood chronicles the lives of two dysfunctional families and their encounters with sex, violence and incest. But, according to Cronenberg, it's not satirical, and is about more than celebrity culture. Full Story

Julianne Moore’s unrelenting commitment to her characters and epic crying face merits a thousand viral video super-cuts. Critically appreciated, but woefully under-awarded, 2014 could be the year she receives her fifth (or sixth) Oscar nomination with her prodigious turns in both Still Alice, and Maps to the Stars. Full Story

Map to the latest mindf-ck

David Cronenberg’s next film is called Maps To The Stars featuring Julianne Moore, John Cusack, Robert Pattinson, and Mia Wasikowska. There’s another reason why Lindsay Lohan will never: Mia Wasikowska, whose chill detachment and uncontrived aloofness (oh hi Rooney Mara) is perfect for Cronenberg’s latest mindf-ck. Full Story

Deadline just reported that Julianne Moore is being considered to play President Coin in Mockingjay which will be split into two movies because they’re all money-grabbers now. It started with Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows. I’m a Potter fan so you’re welcome to accuse me of bias but that book was so dense, with actual action, at the time it was understandable. Full Story

7 Feelings about the Don Jon trailer by Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Dean Posted by Dean

The trailer for Don Jon, the first movie written and directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, is here and it’s a weird one. Don Jon is basically about The Situation if he never got famous, and co-stars Scarlett Johansson. I’m a little overwhelmed by how many feelings I have about this, so I’m going to organize them for you, just like I do for the therapist! 1. Full Story

As expected, Nicole Kidman killed it tonight in Cannes. Her best, best, BEST showing in years. This exquisite dress is Christian Dior from the Haute Couture S/S 2013 that I posted here in January. And I called it exquisite then too. Shocking that there wasn’t more of this at the Oscars. Full Story

So she just emailed Tom Ford and asked him to make her a dress. And he did, using the hard shoulders from Gwyneth Paltrow’s white Oscar cape but making black the main focus, with white accents to flatter. How great does that look from the side, where the white cuts into the leg and gives you the illusion that it might be a pair of pants? And the back. Full Story

She is Duana’s best. And my worst. I want to cry over this, that she could be my worst. Because finally, FINALLY, Julianne Moore wins...and she’s wearing... well... let’s get into it then. Duana first: DUANA It was still my best of the night – and I just want to make the distinction here between “best” and “perfect”. Full Story

As expected (basically as soon as they announced she’d be playing Sarah Palin it was expected), Julianne Moore won the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Actress in a Movie/Miniseries last night for Game Change. Emmy nominations will be announced next month. There is no way she’s not called and, well, chances are she sweeps the Emmys, the Globes, and the SAGs too. Full Story
