Nelson Mandela would have been in Gryffindor, for sure. But Luther? Luther is TOTALLY Slytherin. Like me! Check out Idris Elba wearing Slytherin colours at Leavesden Studios the other day with his daughter. His daughter Isan is Hufflepuff. You know who’s Hufflepuff? Duana. It’s one of the great frustrations of her life. Full Story
Idris Elba announced on Twitter that his son Winston had arrived last week. Thursday, I think. He attached a photo: Yesterday Elba was in London, seen here making an appearance on The One Show. Full Story

The timing…. It has been confirmed that Nelson Mandela has passed away. Tonight is the UK premiere of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. Prince William and Princess Catherine were in attendance. Mandela was 95 years old. The film has the endorsement of his family and Idris Elba’s performance was warmly embraced. Full Story
Look at this beast in a baby blue wool coat with no socks. Not every man can do the same. And I was just sh-tting on this colour on Kate Beckinsale. But this is Idris Elba. You can’t sh-t on Idris Elba when he’s not trying to sing. Earlier this week, I posted about Idris and his girlfriend Naiyana Garth’s pregnancy hints. Full Story

Continuing the (newly minted) holiday celebrating all things goofy and long-legged, Hiddlemas marked its second week by having a festive parade on a carpet that happened to be red. The parade was overseen by Grand Marshall Chris Hemsworth, with a tie knot tied so tiny-ly that it made his head look like a big blonde balloon, and the reigning Nerd Princess, Natalie Portman, who wore a dress she fashioned herself from one of those car windshield sunscreen thingies. Let’s start with Stringer Bell. Stringer Bell is the reason our crew at Roy Thomson Hall was extra jacked for the premiere of Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom at TIFF. Mega man-crushing was happening on that carpet. Even Dylan, who is too cool to fangirl anyone, admitted he was all over it. And, as I wrote last week Full Story
TIFF's artistic director, Cameron Bailey, had a great weekend. So far, almost all the "possible contenders" have delivered, the most notable being Steve McQueen's 12 Years A Slave, which now seems like a straight up lock for a Best Picture Oscar nomination, and could go all the way.
Tonight, however, the focus moves to August: Osage County and Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts. Will it live up to the hype and expectation?
As for TIFF gossip, well, I have some stories. Will roll them out later today. The site was updated over the weekend with galleries from TIFF and New York Fashion Week. Please check LifeStyle to get caught up.
Oh and I spoke briefly with Tim Riggins last night. Read Full Intro

Check out Tom Hiddleston at the GQ Men of the Year Awards last night in London. He looks GREAT. And you know what? Since I have been actively avoiding Tom’s Twitter account, and therefore spared from his exclamation points, Tom’s been holding steady lately, even higher than Tom Hardy. Then I watched this interview. Full Story
Last week we saw a teaser. This week they’re giving us the first full length trailer for Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, starring Idris Elba in the title role and Naomie Harris as Winnie Mandela. Yesterday was also Nelson Mandela’s 95th birthday. As I’ve already mentioned, several times, Elba’s performance in this film is said to be nomination-worthy, in a year featuring several nomination-worthy performances from black actors including Michael B Jordan in Fruitvale, Forest Whittaker in The Butler, and Chiwetel Ejiofor in 12 Years A Slave. Deadline posted an article earlier this week about the upcoming award season and the possibility that it might actually be more diverse this year than it has been, maybe, ever. Fruitvale opens this weekend after coming out strong from Sundance. Then there’s The Butler, and Twelve Years A Slave, and Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom. Full Story
Pacific Rim opens on Friday. My interviews with the cast are airing all week on etalk. I’ll tell you more about Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, and Ron Perlman tomorrow when I post the photos from the LA premiere which is happening tonight. Will Hunnam bring his girlfriend? Will she tell him to lower his chin? Here’s Hunnam at Good Morning America yesterday. Full Story
