Dear Gossips,

As mentioned last week, I will be defending Raziel Reid’s When Everything Feels Like The Movies on Canada Reads in March. The book was inspired by the true story of a 15 year old boy called Larry who was bullied at school for wearing makeup and heels. In 2008, Larry asked another boy to be his Valentine. Larry’s intended Valentine ended up rejecting him. By shooting him twice in the head the next day. There are kids like Larry who are surviving in silence all the time.

Jude, our anti-hero in When Everything Feels Like The Movies is trying so hard to go beyond survival and to find a life. His story is provocative but relatable. His thoughts are irreverent but true. Full Story

 

Smutty Roundup: DJ Idris, David is gracious, and Oscar’s Star Wars

Idris Elba was in Berlin yesterday at the Jaguar presentation. Isn’t that a Bond car? Or a villain car? Aston Martin is the Bond car, right? Whatever. I needed to make a Bond connection there. And he says he’s not Bond…yet: “It’s really just a rumor—and it’s not even my rumor!” Idris went on to tell Bloomberg Full Story

 

Amal back in court

Amal Clooney was in Strasbourg, France with Geoffrey Robertson QC representing Doughty Street Chambers, arguing for Armenia in the case against Dogu Perincek. In 2005, Perincek, chairman of the Turkish Workers’ Party, went to Switzerland to deny Armenian genocide, calling it an “international lie”. Full Story
