With Warner Brothers electing to save Batman vs. Superman for next summer’s Comic-Con, this summer’s convention belongs squarely to the other superhero orgy in our lives, The Avengers: Age of Ultron. To that end, Entertainment Weekly is featuring a first look at Ultron on the cover of its Comic-Con preview issue, and it is very, very cool. Full Story

Summer box office blues

In case you haven’t heard, summer 2014 is some weak-ass sh*t at the box office. We’re two-thirds of the way through the summer movie season and domestic tickets sales are down over 19%—that’s a staggering drop in revenue, especially since we were actually up nearly 10% over last year going into May. Full Story

Woody Allen is fascinated by magic. And now, apparently, Emma Stone. Because he’s cast her in his next movie. But first… Magic In The Moonlight opens next week. Colin Firth plays a middle-aged man who meets a beautiful, young “seer” (is there any other kind in Woody’s mind?) and tries to prove that she’s full of sh-t but, naturally, ends up falling in love with her. Full Story

Nicole Kidman acquired the rights to Kevin Wilson’s The Family Fang almost 3 years ago. Click here for my coverage of the story and my thoughts on the book. Briefly, The Family Fang is about Caleb and Camille Fang, renowned performance artists, who use their children in controversial public stunts (one of them involved the father prostituting his kids in a mall), secretly videotaping the public’s reaction, and then screening the footage at museums and galleries like it’s creative genius. Full Story

Daniel Radcliffe’s devil face

Yesterday Lainey wrote about Daniel Radcliffe and how he’s pretty much doing whatever he wants, post-Harry Potter. At 24 and he’s already made his money and earned the kind of fame that never really goes away (see also: Orlando Bloom, Mark Hamill), so there’s no pressure to earn or increase his profile or anything like that. Full Story

This blue sparkly dress with gold trim… I don’t know if I’d be into it if someone else was wearing it. But on her? It’s pretty spectacular. In fact, a lot of her clothes are great in Ischia. This sheer black dress, again, she manages to elevate. On anyone else, I’m not sure I’d care very much. Full Story

Tom Hardy’s kisses

Tom Hardy continues to shoot Legend in London. There was a kissing scene with Emily Browning in the car. But during break… There were a lot of kisses with the dog. His own dog. That looks like Woodstock. He adopted Woodstock with Jessica Chastain – because the two of them are super method like that – when they were working on Lawless. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

Everyone is talking about Boyhood. They’re calling it a “masterpiece”. They’re saying that director Richard Linklater has made “cinematic history”. They’re claiming that it’s never been done before, that Linklater has redefined the way childhood is portrayed in film. It’s currently rating at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. I have colleagues, jaded, cynical assholes who’ve worked in the business for decades, who are coming out of this movie saying they’ve been transformed.

Boyhood was shot over 12 years with the same actors, documenting the real-time (scripted) journey of one kid and his family. I’ve not seen it yet because it doesn’t open in Toronto until this weekend and the week after in other parts of Canada.  Read Full Intro

Daniel Radcliffe is currently promoting his new movie The F Word. In the US the movie is called What If…because apparently American audiences are pearl clutchy about that kind of sh-t. It’s a romantic comedy. I love the variety in his career. He’s done the supernatural, fantasy franchise thing. Full Story

Emma Stone worked with Woody Allen last year on Magic In The Moonlight in France. Looks like he’s found a new muse. Because she’s now shooting another film with him, currently untitled, and this time in Rhode Island. How long has it been since he set a story in America? Wait. Never mind. Full Story

Unbroken and Angelina’s Eye

The first trailer for Unbroken, Angelina Jolie’s second film as a director, has been released and it has Oscar Bait stamped all over it: Sweeping music, dazzling visuals, a story about a scrappy survivor, World War II, and a family-friendly Christmas release date. If Unbroken is even half as good as advertised, it’s a shoo-in for nominations next year. Full Story

Sienna Miller and Johnny Depp were on the beach in Massachusetts yesterday shooting Black Mass. At a different time… Could this have been? Physically, she is totally his type, non? In line with Kate Moss and Vanessa Paradis. Can you imagine? Actually, I’ve imagined it before. Full Story
