Hi Hayley, I need some help with my calves! Currently I go to two step classes (Group Blast) and three weight training classes (Group Power) at my gym as well as a few 5-8k hikes with my dog a week. My calves were at their best when I was rock climbing and hiking a ton, but now with a toddler who likes to run towards danger I'm not able to get out doing these activities enough to keep the muscle on. Full Article

Hey Hayley, I have been following this blog for years and you since the beginning. I was so stoked a couple years ago when you got into mountain biking and now skate skiing, two of my faves. The question I have for you is around speed in climbing on a bike and running. I will toot my own downhill horn and say between the up and the down I am way stronger on the down. Full Article

Hi! I'm in a serious motivational funk and I'm not sure how to claw my way out of it. I used to fence as a kid and I've recently started again, and I'm terribly out of shape and my endurance is shot, and it makes me quite awkward and uncomfortable. I'm shy about asking other foil fencers to have bouts with me because it embarrasses me how slow and inaccurate I've become. Full Article

Hi Hayley, I am training for my first marathon and have some concerns about getting the right nutrition and calorie intake for my body during this time. I have noticed in while training for past half marathons that I tend to not eat enough the day of my long runs. I don't want to continue that practice. Full Article

Last night I was working with a client who made a comment to me that she has hated exercise, and exercising, for most of her life and that she wished that she was one of those people who loved it, which got me thinking this morning on my hike up the mountain. It was a bit of a drizzly and cloudy day and I managed to sneak out early, while most were asleep, and get out into my happy place. Full Article

Cheat days and cheat meals have been something I have disagreed with since I became a trainer. I have been in this industry for 10 years and not a day goes by where I don’t hear someone mention their cheat meal or cheat day. Although this idea of allowing yourself whatever you want one time a week does work for some, it can be detrimental to so many. Full Article

Hello Hayley--I'm a relatively fit person (though slightly over my ideal weight). Up until a week ago, I was running half marathons, swimming twice a week, hitting my road bike, and generally just moving for at least 30-60 mins a day. On Monday, I had a breast reduction, partially to help with horrendous pain that happens with all that movement (and even the normal stuff). Full Article

Hi Hayley, I've started my running training again (10K in April, Half in the fall) and this year I am determined to incorporate strength training. I swore the last few years I would, and I failed miserably... could you suggest some strength training and stretches specifically for runners? Preferably a routine I could do twice a week, alongside the 3 runs (4 once Half training kicks in!) that I do per week?
