It is that time of year again, when holiday themed coffees are everywhere. I know I look forward to my local coffee shop becoming decorated for the festive season, but it seems each year this happens earlier and earlier, and with my peppermint latte addiction, I need to be careful. I am never one to tell you not to have anything or to deprive yourself of your favourites treats, but moderation is key and I preach time and time again that you CAN have it all, just NOT all the time. Full Article

Hello Hayley, How do you feel about pedometers? I would like to invest in a good one but I am on a budget. L ___ I am a pretty simple person and the only technology I have in my life is a smart phone, an apple TV and a laptop. I have never been into strava, or Garmin or other forms of GPS monitoring and I don’t have a cadence meter or speedometer on my bike. Full Article

Dear Hayley, I'm 27 and for a long time, I was a yo-yo dieter. I struggled with binge eating, and would also go through long stretches where I'd become obsessed with eating healthy and exercising and would lose 25 pounds. And then gain it all back a few months later. A year and a half ago I lost 15 pounds and 2 dress sizes by lifting and eating healthy. Full Article

Hi Hayley! I recently started jogging. I am, very much, the definition of a couch potato. I was never an active child, and I've spent years of my adult life alternating between a very sedentary lifestyle and taking up certain activities just to get bored with them after a few months. But now I've realized that at my age (late 30s) I need to make an effort, and certain lifestyle changes (becoming a freelancer and being able to set my own schedule, for example) and wake-up calls (sick relatives, realizing that looking young for my age just gives me an excuse to not change bad habits) have motivated me to make healthier choices and adhere to them. Full Article

Hi Hayley, I'm thinking of signing up for a full marathon in May of next year. My goal is to finish in under 4:30. What's the least amount of running I can get away with to reach this goal? A bit about me: I'm in fairly good shape. I currently run 2-4 times a week (mostly 30-40 minute HIIT workouts on the treadmill), I will sometimes (but very, very rarely) go out for a long run - maybe up to 15-20km), spin a couple times a week, lift weights a couple times a week, and go to various boot camps 2-3 times a week. Full Article

Hi Hayley I used to be an avid early morning exerciser but lately I just can't seem to drag myself out of bed in time no matter how early I go to sleep (read: two kids, hubby, full time job, etc.) I'm starting to wonder if I should just shift my workouts to the evening after the kids are in bed (around 8PM). Full Article

Hayley, I have been training for a first marathon with a goal to finish in under 4:45-5:00. I have been following a program with a local running group, running about 3 times a week, although sometimes less. I have only a few weeks to go to my race. I have managed to complete the peak long distance run and almost every other long slow distance run, even though I haven't been 100% consistent and never ran more than 3 times a week. Full Article

Hi Hayley, I am desperate, and I need some fitness advice. I had a baby 4months ago, and while I lost the pregnancy weight (almost all of it), my clothes (mostly pants and skirt) don't fit anymore. I put about 12kg during pregnancy and now I have lost almost all of them (still 2kg to go) with a Balanced diet and breastfeeding (no sports for me so far). Full Article

Smutty Fitness: Salad Dressing

I have a challenge for you. Go home today, open your fridge, grab every single bottle of salad dressing you own, then walk to the recycling bin and leave them there (bottles washed out of course!). This is one way to clean up your eating and an easy way to get rid of unnecessary chemicals from your diet. Full Article

Hi Hayley, I love your column and your balanced, focus way of talking about fitness. I'm writing with a question about diet. I'm very careful about what I eat, but find that there's so much conflicting information. Until recently, I lived with a vegetarian roommate and ate lots of grains and legumes. Full Article

Hi Hayley, Over the past three years or so, I've gained about 20lbs. Blame it on finally NOT being pregnant and eating too much, drinking too much, and generally being too merry/lazy. Six weeks ago I decided to finally buckle down. Exercising for 20 minutes every day (alternating strength and high intensity cardio) and adding in an extra 15-20k of bike riding throughout the week. Full Article

Smutty Fitness: The Body Image Movement

Body Image is something that I deal with every day, both in my own world as well as in the world of all of my clients and all of the emails I receive from readers asking me for help. But this conversation is nothing new and has been a prevalent issue among women in our world for decades. I was invited to go and listen to Taryn Brumfitt... Full Article

Hi Hayley, I am the definition of someone who wants to all delicious things but still look like a bombshell - I hate exercise (I am trying) and try to eat healthy but still want to enjoy my favourite foods. I recently embarked on a sugar free week - no dairy, no fruit, nothing processed, no white sugar, no starch, no bread - I am basically eating a lot of veggies and lean meat. Full Article

Hi Hayley, I know it shouldn't have taken death to make me open my eyes but that's how it happened and made everything in my life shift focus. A forty-year-old uncle of mine had a stroke and I couldn't believe it, he seemed so young. His BMI was definitely lower than mine. I went to my doctor and he told me that I can do any exercise I can handle and that I'm healthy as I can be for my weight (which isn't at all healthy). Full Article
