Dear Gossips,

Last week I used Miley Cyrus as an excuse to talk about Brandon Flowers. Have I mentioned that I’m obsessed with Brandon Flowers? Anyway, in that post (click here for a refresher), I gossip-wished Brandon covering Don’t Get Me Wrong for Miley’s next Backyard Session. Well, he performed in London last night. And he covered Don’t Get Me Wrong. But instead of Miley, He.Sang.It.With.Chrissie.Hynde.

Um…

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to restrain myself from watching this too many times because he is so f-cking hot in this video, I might not be able to work. Oh and he also performed it on BBC Radio 2 live at Maida Vale studios. It’s the second embedded video below, start at 19:44. God. He sounds gorgeous.

Anyway, like I said, I have to work. So I have to ignore my Google alerts. But this photo attached first is from his new interview about The Desired Effect with the LA Times – click here to read it. Or, you know, just stare at his face. Which you can also do while watching the new lyric video for I Can Change that was just released yesterday. That’s the third video embedded.

OK. I’m trying. I’m trying to work. Heading back to Toronto today so I’ve worked overnight to prepare most of today’s articles and they’ll be rolled out through the morning. The flight is supposed to have wifi so, hopefully if it’s running, I’ll write the rest from the air.

Have a great weekend!

In the latest installment of James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke, Justin Bieber comes along for the ride. No, nothing will ever be better than Mimi glittering all over James’s vehicle as he plays hit after hit – HER  hits, obviously – but this interview format, side by side, with music, driving around Los Angeles, is really effective. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

Have you watched the Feeling Myself video yet? I can’t stop watching Beyonce and Nicki Minaj dedicate an entire video to celebrating themselves.

Please.

Isn’t every video a self-celebration? If you’re going to do it – and they ALL do it – you might as well do it with really, REALLY good hair and makeup, toned legs and asses, and some burgers. I change my mind about my favourite part every time I hit repeat but right now, I love it when they eat the burgers. And groove while they’re eating the burgers. And, yes, feeling themselves. Oh they feel themselves real hard.

It’s the rise of the huge female ego. Two at a time. And I am totally OK with this.

Quick programming note: I’m at Disneyland with The Social for the next few days as we’re coming live from the park this week. Have tried to prep the column before I have to leave for rehearsals and shoots and Sarah’s handling several posts while I’m on set. If anything breaks, I’ll try to write from my phone. Thanks in advance for understanding.

It’s Still Britney, first

Last night on The Voice, Christina Aguilera did a spoof of different pop stars auditioning to be a judge (she is of course a judge on the show). She played Cher, Miley, Sia, Shakira, Lady Gaga and the one everyone is talking about, Britney Spears. Britney and Christina go way back; they started in the Mickey Mouse Club together and Britney exploded just as Christina was coming on to the scene. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

If you’re in Canada returning from the long weekend, we posted a few articles yesterday so please scroll down to get caught up.

I had a deadline last night which seriously cut into my Brandon Flowers creeping time. The album is out now. And I have a flight later so he’s coming with me to LA. He, however, will not be in LA because he’s been in the UK the last few days. Plays a show tonight in Dublin. On Friday he performed on Graham Norton. After the song was done, he was invited to join the couch, next to comedian Michael McIntyre. Who could not get over that face. It is a spectacular face. So spectacular that Michael, well, he couldn’t contain himself. It’s almost like …he’s confused by it. Like he can’t quite believe it. The expression on his face is hilarious. Start at 3:45 below to get right to the interview if you don’t want to sit through the singing. BUT WHY NOT???

Just indulge me for a couple more weeks. As my friends have pointed out often, I’m fickle. My crushes never last long. Sooner or later I’ll see him in a pair of pants I don’t like and it’ll be over.

Lainey

Dear Gossips,

I’m sorry, I can’t stop. Last night before bed, Jacek was watching the news and I had my headphones in, cranked up loud. He was asking me something and I couldn’t hear. Then he tapped me and I still didn’t react. He finally had to shove his face into the side of my head before I noticed.

“Are you creeping Brandon Flowers again?”

What?

I’m obsessed with this album, not unlike how obsessed I was with Taylor Swift’s 1989. Because both are so unapologetically, gleefully POP. The thing with pop, and my relationship to it, is that it came first for me. It was mine. I grew up in an immigrant home. My Chinese parents didn’t have a music library. They didn’t, couldn’t, introduce me to whatever it is you want to call “classic rock”. Pop was on the radio. Pop was what was there for me to discover. Pop was the first love. And it was a door too. Because pop isn’t snobby. Pop doesn’t tell you that you can’t go and learn about punk afterwards and then move on to soul, folk, metal, and on. I’ll never not have an iPod without New Order on it. Or Duran Duran. And in this new interview Brandon Flowers just addressed rumours that he might be collaborating with one of the bands, or both. OMG.

Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night. Photos and recap on Monday. Have a great weekend!

I’ll switch with Guy Ritchie

Let me leave you with this for the weekend…because this actually distracted me for a few minutes from my obsession with Brandon Flowers. PS. Brandon is performing tonight on Graham Norton. He’s doing I Can Change. OK but back to Charlie Hunnam and his lap. Guy Ritchie posted this on Instagram. Full Story

As you’ve heard, JLO’s going to Vegas, officially. The residency begins in January at Planet Hollywood. As I said before, JLO’s a good show. But there aren’t that many hits. So the spectacle might be more important than the songs, you know? The clothing, the makeup, the hair, the choreography. Full Story

As I mentioned yesterday, Miley Cyrus was in New York last night performing at the Adult Swim upfront party. Then she went out to party with Bella Hadid and Scout Willis. And her nipples were all over the place. Get over it. In other Miley news, her focus lately has been on launching Happy Hippie Foundation, a non-profit aimed to raise awareness for LGBT homeless, at-risk and LGBT youth and collaborating with other artists in a series of Backyard Sessions in support of the charity. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

I spend my nights listening to Brandon Flowers, creeping him online. Wait. Can you call it creeping when you don’t bother hiding it? Jacek will come up from the basement, see me on my laptop, and know right away. “Are you perving out on Brandon Flowers again?” YES.

It’s bad right now. My problem is bad. Especially since these new songs are SO good, particularly to those of us who grew up 80s. Erasure, Depeche Mode, New Order, Pet Shop Boys, Duran Duran…this is actually how hard I had it for Simon Le Bon back in the day. Little 12 year old me drawing hearts all over his face. I used to write letters on official Duran Duran Fan Club stationery. (F-ck. Why didn’t I save some of that?) Brandon Flowers is taking me there. And if you’re of that time, I’m telling you, his new album will take you there too.  Read Full Intro

After kicking off the 1989 tour in Tokyo last week, Taylor Swift was back in LA this weekend. On Saturday she was seen at Wango Tango, dancing and cheering during her boyfriend Calvin Harris’s set. Yesterday she was out on a hike with Gigi Hadid. Gigi is one of the many Friends Of Taylor (FOT) featured in the upcoming Bad Blood video that will premiere at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday. Full Story

Brandon Flowers was on Jimmy Kimmel last night. Two Brandon posts in two days. This isn’t helping my problem. Because… well… the voice. Some people live? They’re sh-t. Him? The notes are there. And his energy. His charisma. His FACE. I mean I thought he was all of it with short hair. Full Story

Brandon’s back

Thanks to Henry who sent this to me because I would have missed it otherwise. Brandon Flowers. His back. No shirt. NO PROBLEM. Henry asked if he was too tanned. Or skinny. Not for me. I like skinny. I prefer lanky over juiced up. So this is cranking all my gears. And I’ve been accelerating on Brandon for a while. Full Story
