I got lucky back in June. On June 12th, right after the Tony Awards ended, a new block of Hamilton tickets was released and somehow I was able to get a couple, good seats too, on December 3. New York City on a Saturday night during the holidays with Duana. It’s Duana who’s the Hamilton scholar on our team. Full Story

It was confirmed this week that Johnny Depp has indeed been cast as Gellert Grindelwald in the sequel to Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them. Many fans then expressed disappointment in light of his divorce from Amber Heard and the allegations – and accompanying photos and texts and witnesses – of domestic abuse. Full Story

Duana and I posted our Harry Potter And The Cursed Child podcast yesterday. I’ve embedded it again below if you’ve not yet had a chance to listen. One of the things we ended up arguing over, which we never intended to argue over, but that’s how these conversations go, was the pronunciation of “Delphi”. Full Story

Judging from the reviews of Suicide Squad – Sarah’s review was posted earlier today – Warner Bros still can’t figure out how to get the DC Universe right. It has however done a great job building the world of Harry Potter. Full Story

The first excerpt from JK Rowling’s History of Magic in North America was posted yesterday, and it focused on Native American wizards. As a half-Oglala Lakota kid who grew up searching for any signs of my culture that wasn’t a mascot, I almost cried reading it. The world of Harry Potter has been uniquely European and primarily British, but now that world is expanding outward and embracing other traditions and cultures. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

I can’t wait until tonight. JK Rowling’s giving us a bedtime story tonight. By the time you read this, it will be past 2pm GMT and the first installment of the History of Magic in North America – basically a study guide ahead of the November release of Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them – will be published on Pottermore  Read Full Intro

Dear Gossips,

It was announced yesterday that on July 31st, which is JK Rowling’s birthday and also Harry Potter’s birthday, Harry Potter And The Cursed Child Parts I & II will be published, immediately following the stage production.

Relief.

Because when the announcement first came out last October, I was one of probably millions of whiney babies who moaned about not being able to get to London’s West End to see the play and whyyyyyy couldn’t it have been a book? Click here for a refresher.

Well now it is a book. NOT A NOVEL.

The story is set 19 years after the end of The Deathly Hallows. Like the Battle of Hogwarts, I’m assuming, and not the epilogue at King’s Cross. And the darkness, it comes back in unexpected places. Well of course it does. What’s life without some darkness, even for those who live among magic? So, basically, there is no happily ever after. There are just stretches of happiness balanced out by challenges. Sound familiar? That’s what good luck, bad luck, and feng shui is all about too!

Yours in gossip,

Lainey

My mind – and my heart – has already been blown today by Adele. I don’t know how much more stimulation I can take… A message has appeared on Pottermore about the new play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Up to this point, we weren’t sure what this was all about. Full Story
