There were some major players at the Palm Springs Film Festival this weekend. As Tom Hanks said at the event, “The holidays have come to an end but for some the celebrity mule train is just beginning”. Oscar nominations voting ends on Wednesday (and will be announced next Thursday) and since many Oscar voters live in Palm Springs, it’s always an opportunity for one last hustle to get their names on the ballot. 2013 is looking a lot like 2009 for Sandra Bullock. In 2009 The Proposal was a summer box office hit and The Blind Side was a fall winner and then she was named Entertainment Weekly’s Entertainer of the Year. After that… Oscar.
In 2013 The Heat was a big summer release, Gravity is doing great in the fall, and she’s been named Entertainment Weekly’s Entertainer of the Year. Once again, she’s a contender for Best Actress. Meryl Streep is also a contender this year. And she was also a contender in 2009/10, along with Helen Mirren, Gabourey Sidibe, and Carey Mulligan.
Remember when Sandra Bullock adopted a baby during award season and no one found out? One of the best examples that you can keep your sh-t tight when you want to in Hollywood. Read Full Intro
Have you seen The Heat? Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy fell in love with each other in The Heat. And it shows. They have great admiration for each other. They are generous with each other, in every single scene. There’s no doubt that they adore each other. And, as you’re watching, you adore them for it. Full Story

Matthew McConaughey can smell it. Last night he was honoured with the Hollywood Actor Award at the Hollywood Film Awards. As you know, McConaughey’s work in Killer Joe and Mud, followed by his performance in Dallas Buyers Club, is being called the best of his career, considered, by some, to be worth of an Oscar nomination. Holy sh--------t. Sometimes someone looks so good you want to punch yourself in the face. Picture me pile-driving myself over and over again. Because Sandra Bullock, tonight in London at the premiere of Gravity, is f-cking amazing...at any age, and she's almost 50. We did a thing on The Social a couple of weeks ago about a recent study that revealed that most people think that 50 is the ideal age and all of us were like, really? Bullsh-t. Full Story
Gravity broke the October box office record for a non-sequel this weekend. It’s great news for movie stars. And it’s great news for Sandra Bullock, who is a real movie star. Sandy’s 2013/2014 is looking a lot like her 2009/2010 – hit comedy in the summer (The Proposal/The Heat) followed by a commercially successful drama in the fall (The Blind Side/Gravity) and then…on to Oscar?
If Cate Blanchett and Meryl Streep have locked down the first two nomination spots (and, right now, it seems inconceivable that they won’t be there in March), Gravity’s success means Sandy’s running a very close third in the race. Given how popular she is, Sandy’s also good for Oscar ratings. Not bad for a woman who’s turning 50 next year. Read Full Intro
Maybe it’s because we have our own house now, but I’ve never been as into House Porn as I am now. Also, I have no eye for interiors. It’s weird because when it comes to clothing, I know exactly what I want. When it comes to where I live and what that could look like…no idea. Full Story
Sandra Bullock covers the new issue of VOGUE. You know Sandy’s one of my favourites but I can’t say this is the most memorable interview ever. By design. Sandy’s not all that gossipy, you know? There was a Big Gossip Story that happened to her, sure, but Sandy in her own space? She actively avoids it. Full Story
George Clooney is in Vancouver working on Tomorrowland. It’s a Disney movie sort of maybe about Disney directed by Brad Bird. The other night he went out to a sushi restaurant and made the reservation under Mr Sanchez. Ha. Here are some exclusive photos of Clooney on the first day of shooting in Vancouver yesterday. A change in format today.
I have press all day for The Social, our upcoming afternoon talk show premiering on Monday on CTV in Canada. We start at 6am ET with interviews every half hour or so. Normally I try to structure my work schedule to accommodate for blogging but this time it was impossible.
So I've pre-written 3 posts and shout-outs, and for the rest of the day, Duana will be our Guest Editor. She already has a LOT to say about Lisa Kudrow joining the cast of Scandal. Look out. Also, she might try to find any excuse to talk about Julia Roberts, her true love. You can reach Duana on Twitter @duanaelise or email [email protected].
I'm back full-time tomorrow. Read Full Intro
Gravity might be great. Rapturous early reviews are coming out of the Venice Film Festival where Sandra Bullock and George Clooney presented the film for the first time yesterday. The film is being called a visual masterpiece, in particular its 13 minute opening – a single shot. This, then, is not The Great Gatsby. Full Story

If the Gossip Genie won’t help us out, I don’t know, maybe Jesus Oprah can. Or the benevolent Beyonce. Only those two are powerful enough to put them together – Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. Check them out, arriving at the gala premiere of Gravity tonight. And what a handsome couple. Full Story
Sandra Bullock and George Clooney are kicking off the Venice Film Festival tonight with Gravity. Here they are at the photocall this afternoon. Now WHYYYYYYYYYYY can’t this be more than friends? They clearly like each other. And if the physical is any indication, they seem to bring out the best in each other. Full Story
The Venice Film Festival opens tomorrow. First film: Gravity, starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. I’ve talked to a few people at TIFF. They all said it’s an extraordinary piece of filmmaking. So for those of you who’ve been asking me what to line up for at the festival, this would be a good one, and not just because it features two of the biggest movie stars in the world. Full Story
