Dear Gossips,

One week after winning Oscar, Julianne Moore showed up at the Canadian Screen Awards last night in Toronto. She was nominated for her role in David Cronenberg’s Maps To The Stars. And lost to Anne Dorval for her performance in Xavier Dolan’s Mommy.

Still, Julianne – who was staffed by Stephen Huvane – worked the entire press line, stopping for almost every media outlet, because, as she told the Toronto Star

“I love Toronto. I’ve been coming to Toronto to work since 1986, a really long time, so I feel I’m practically Canadian.”

Love that. Love her.

More on the CSAs later.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey

PS. On Thursday March 12, I’m heading back to my alma mater, Western University (it was the University of Western Ontario back in my day) for The Walrus Talks Creativity. There are 9 speakers. And 8 of them are arty respected intellectuals. Then there’s me, the gossip c-nt, talking sh-t about celebrities. If you’re around and you want to see me look like an asshole, come by for a laugh. Could just be pen. Temporary writing. But given the direction the letters are facing, I’ll guess permanent until we hear otherwise. Because it would be easier for a tattoo artist to write the letters facing themselves than have to come behind you, or get you to twist your hand around, to write the letters facing you. Full Story

Brad Pitt was at LAX on Saturday. Some say he was heading to France to check in on their property and the wine. Brange has been quiet lately, on the Hollywood front at least. She’s likely in post for By The Sea and he has yet to confirm his next acting role, although it’s been revealed that he’ll be producing a Lewis and Clark series for HBO with Edward Norton and Tom Hanks. Full Story

Julianne Moore won an Oscar for her performance in Still Alice. In all the talk about Still Alice, apart from Moore’s name, who else did you hear mentioned? Kristen Stewart, for sure.  But, um, not really Kate Bosworth, right? I totally forgot she was in the film. And I’ve SEEN the film. Full Story

Blade Runner is a classic. Arguably, it’s a masterpiece. But it’s from 1982, which means it must be revisited/reimagined for a contemporary audience because pop culture is a ravenous beast that survives on nostalgia and memes. Rumors of a potential Blade Runner sequel have been swirling for the last few years, and yesterday it was confirmed—Blade Runner 2 is happening and Harrison Ford will return to star as Deckard, one of the most mysterious protagonists in cinema. Full Story

Blake Lively to remake At First Sight

At First Sight, the romantic drama starring Val Kilmer and Mira Sorvino, is one of the most hilariously terrible movies I’ve ever seen. In that movie, Kilmer’s character is blind and he falls in love with Sorvino, but when he regains his sight their relationship falls apart because he needs to re-learn everything as a sighted person and Sorvino’s character is an asshole. Full Story

The first trailer for a film adaptation of Shakespeare’s Cymbeline, starring Ethan Hawke and Dakota Johnson, has arrived and it claims the play is Shakespeare’s “undiscovered masterpiece”. Though the date of its writing is unknown, a performance of Cymbeline was noted in 1611, and in every century since then it has been reprinted, staged, adapted, and analyzed. Full Story

Hugh Jackman is currently promoting Chappie. He was in Paris today for the photo call. The other day, during our Oscar all-nighter, Duana told me about an article that was written about Birdman. The writer hated it. And the title of his piece was: Is Birdman the first Best Picture winner that clearly hates its own audience? If you have time, it’s worth a read. Full Story

Here are some new shots of Mrs Timberlake in New Orleans on the set of The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea. Accompanying these photos are two stories from E! News and US Weekly about what it’s been like to work with Mrs T on the film. Two different, unrelated outlets, and both essentially running the same story: she’s been totally low maintenance, no demands, eating healthy, nice to everyone, and everyone loves her. Full Story

The Snow White and the Huntsman sequel/spin-off/whatever, that no one asked for has now somehow convinced Jessica Chastain to join its cast. She will reportedly play the Huntsman’s love interest, because this project makes no goddamned sense. Does the script pop out gold coins every time you turn a page? How in the hell have they recruited Emily Blunt Full Story

Totally agree with what Duana wrote about Margot Robbie on Oscar night. Click here for a refresher. Margot Robbie is 24. She’s younger than, say, Emma Stone. But she’s always played older, non? It reminds me of one of my favourite movies, Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet. Full Story

It’s too bad. Because if you’ve seen Fifty Shades Of Grey, you know he needs more finish. I’ll say it again: more come face, give us more come face! Four or five sex scenes and no climax? How is this allowed?!? So anyway, about those rumours this week that he’s done with Christian Grey and wants out of the sequels, Dornan’s rep has now released a full statement, denying that he’s trying to get out of the franchise, instead confirming that he wants to keep going for more: "Jamie is delighted that the film is breaking box office records worldwide and whilst the studio has not made any formal announcements about sequels, he is looking forward to making the next film. Full Story
