Always. Always sharp when it comes to Eddie Redmayne. Here he is with fiancée Hannah Bagshawe in New York last night at the premiere of The Theory Of Everything for which, right now, he’s looking pretty good for a Best Actor nomination. I keep telling you he deserves it. And when you see the film on November 7th, you’ll understand. Full Story
A box office win for Brad Pitt’s Fury. Fury’s performance this weekend just made it an Oscar conversation so Part 1 of Brange’s road to Oscar seems to have been accomplished. The rest is up to Unbroken.
As you know, Brad put in some work and hustle to promote this film. When they want, they can sell these two. And I wonder what we’ll be saying, just over 6 months from now, when the Oscar red carpet has been put away, about their campaign and how it started. On August 23, at their wedding. Too cynical? Oh come on. From this perspective it’s a compliment. On strategy they have no equal in Hollywood right now.
On the subject of this weekend’s box office…

Marvel is still looking for Dr Strange because it definitely won’t be Joaquin Phoenix. His publicist released a statement the other day confirming that negotiations are “dead, dead, dead. A couple of weeks ago they mutually decided to part ways. It was over before the New York Film Festival”. Full Story
On Friday the latest rumor about Superhero Face Punch, which has been filming since 1997 at this point, hit the internet and it’s one of the more interesting assumptions about the movie we’ve heard yet—Jena Malone might be playing a female iteration of Batman’s sidekick, Robin. Full Story
While Brad Pitt continues to promote Fury – with results – Angelina Jolie is in Malta continuing to shoot her film By The Sea. She was photographed in costume, very Liz Taylor, working on a scene the other day. Not sure who the blonde is but Melanie Laurent is supposed to be in the movie and…could be her? Hair looks similar. Birdman is a tremendous film. There’s no other way to put it. It’s an ASTOUNDING technical accomplishment and a genuinely affecting film that is funny, absurd, moving, and sad. The performances are fantastic, the score is terrific, and where Clouds of Sils Maria gets bogged down in the pedantics of actors talking about acting (click here Full Story

Clouds of Sils Maria is French filmmaker Olivier Assayas’s new film. It stars Juliette Binoche, Kristen Stewart, and Chloe Grace Moretz. It is about an actress, Maria (Binoche), debating whether or not to take a role in the play that made her famous, but instead of playing the young ingénue, she would now be playing the older, ostensibly pathetic character. Eddie Redmayne was front row at the Alexander Wang H&M Collection launch in New York last night. (Sasha was there too, covering it for etalk. I was jealous. Wang is… goddamn, he is something to look at. The clothes, sure. But his FACE!) If I’m a designer, Eddie Redmayne is at the top of the list of male celebrities I’d want to be there. Full Story

During a shareholder meeting earlier this week, Warner Brothers CEO Kevin Tsujihara dumped a ton of info about the DC cinematic universe on us, including the flashy announcement that textile-wearer Ezra Miller will play The Flash. Buried under the new information is the confirmation that Zack Snyder will direct two Justice League movies, coming in 2017 and 2019, respectively. Full Story

Amal Alamuddin Clooney went back to work this week, advising the Greek government on the Parthenon Marbles situation. She returned to London yesterday. Here’s George Clooney in Vancouver, back for Tomorrowland. Will his wife show up in Canada for the weekend? A lot of you have been asking me about this name change situation, whether or not it’s a problem. Full Story
A new Mockingjay Part 1 teaser was released yesterday featuring just Jennifer Lawrence, returning home to District 12 to survey the damage, under manipulation by Plutarch Heavensbee to fight for the rebel forces. This was one of the strongest elements of The Hunger Games series – even the “good guys” were assholes.
Five weeks now until Mockingjay opens. Five weeks until everyone at the box office gets the f-ck out of the way of Jennifer Lawrence, Hollywood’s reigning Most Popular on an impressive 2+ year run, so far immune to the inevitable onset of actress backlash, even after getting hacked. How? Anne Hathaway probably wants to know. Part of it is that Lawrence isn’t papped day after day after day. She can go undercover for long weeks at a time. Read Full Intro

Um. Yeah. I linked to one of these shots of Jamie Dornan in the November issue of British VOGUE yesterday. And I just saw a few more of them. Really, really, REALLY good photo shoot. The first image I attached? Sh-t, when I first looked at it I couldn’t breathe. But he doesn’t always do it for me. Full Story
