Intro for May 9, 2014
There was a moment last during my Q&A with Rainbow Rowell when Duana and I looked at each other and almost cried. An audience member asked Rainbow about the ending of Eleanor & Park and whether or not she’d always intended it to be that way. Rainbow confirmed that she knew from the very beginning that this was how it had to be. It had to be.
They were SO young. Too young. To receive something SO big, so important. And sometimes the right person comes along and helps you make it right but it’s still the wrong time to be with them. That’s the hard choice that a writer has to make. And sometimes I feel like it’s a choice that fewer and fewer of them have the balls to make.
Give the readers what they need, not what they want.
Rainbow Rowell gets this. She really, really gets it. She’s really, really, REALLY amazing.
If you haven’t read Eleanor & Park and Fangirl, sh-t, what are you waiting for? You have an entire weekend! Rainbow Rowell books are great Mother’s Day gifts.
Happy Mother’s Day!
