Venus Williams is 35. Serena Williams is 33. They met on Centre Court at Wimbledon yesterday and while it wasn’t a classic match, the significance here is that it might not happen again. The Williams sisters have dominated this sport for almost 20 years. Between them, they hold 27 grand slams – and that number only includes singles titles! It also doesn’t count Olympic gold medals. Also, if you count how many doubles and mixed doubles championships they share, it’s over 50. You cannot overstate their impact and influence. Sometimes though, I feel like people don’t care enough – about how they became who they are in a sport that wasn’t exactly welcoming, and what they fought through: themselves and everyone else. I’ve linked to it before but I’ll never get tired of this article so I’m going to link to it again – in my opinion the best piece ever written on Venus and Serena Williams, by John Jeremiah Sullivan for the New York Times. Click here.
For all that they’ve done, and how much they’ve won, do you think they get enough respect?
Yours in gossip,
Savannah just sent this over to me and I can’t thank her enough for bringing me so much happiness and cringe at the same time. The New England Patriots celebrated their Super Bowl last night. There was a party. They all received their rings – the biggest rings ever in the history of Super Bowl rings: 205 diamonds in total, and each player’s number customised. Full Story
I was one of those dumb f-cking c-nts. I was a believer. I kept believing, right up to the very, very end. Right up until USADA charged him in October 2012. I’ve written about it before. How much I wanted to hang on to the idea that Lance Armstrong was possible. I read all the books. Then, afterwards, after I had to give that up, I read Tyler Hamilton’s book, The Secret Race (which I obsessed over for weeks). Full Story
Paris. Roland Garros. Where Rafa has ruled for a decade. Rafa is King. Was king? No one knows yet if that moment will become THE moment, the kind of moment when everything changes. And he’s certainly not talking like he wants it to become that particular moment. But it’s hard not to think that way. So this is where I’m starting today because I would have gotten yelled at for ending the day with it yesterday, his birthday.
Rafa was gracious afterwards. He’s been kicking Novak’s ass for almost 10 years on red clay. Following Novak’s convincing victory though, he declared that his opponent is “probably in the best moment of his career”. So that’s what Andy Murray’s dealing with tomorrow. A note on Andy Murray though – and something to read for everyone, not just those of you who follow tennis.
Andy is the first superstar male athlete to work with a female coach, Amelie Mauresmo. He has endured ridicule for it. He has been criticised for it. He has had to defend it. Click here to read about his partnership with Mauresmo…and what a Mauresmo-Murray championship would mean.

Multiple outlets are reporting that Prince Harry went to visit the Cambridges this weekend to meet his niece, Charlotte. Great. More importantly, he played polo on Sunday. Ginger and green is a great combination. As is Hot Harry and a horse. And the white pants. Also, Harry’s competition face. Full Story
There was a rally at Foxborough yesterday: Free Tom Brady. New England Patriots superfans gathering in support of their quarterback who’s appealing his 4 game suspension, ostensibly for deflating some balls but, really, for trying to cover it up. He’s like Martha Stewart that way. If you recall, for Martha, it wasn’t all that much money, especially not for her. Full Story
Can we start with Cristiano Ronaldo? Because I am not a believer. Like I can’t actually see it. I don’t want to see it. Apparently this means I’m crazy, as he’s known around the world as maybe the most beautiful man ever. He and Irina Shayk were together for a long time. They broke up earlier this year. Full Story
David Beckham is in Miami. He was photographed yesterday lounging on his hotel balcony with his shirt wrapped around his head. Becks has been trying to make an MLS team happen there. Miami? A lot of people think that Miami is where fidelity goes on holiday. With that in mind, let’s talk about this Page Six Full Story

Serena Williams covers the April issue of VOGUE. I love this photo. I love that Serena Williams looks like Serena Williams. I love that Serena Williams isn’t posing with her tennis racquet or tossing a ball up and down like that’s the only way you’d recognise her. You shouldn’t have to recognise her that way. Full Story

Jamie Dornan went to the range in London the other day to work on his swing. Incentive to sign on to more Fifty Shades movies? You can golf all year round in Vancouver where they shot the first movie. Still no definitive word on that yet though, right? There are all kinds of random reports here and there about how he and Dakota Johnson are getting more money and are recommitted… but there’s been no confirmation about a director. Full Story

Finally. A legitimate challenger to McGosling, Rachel and Ryan! People kept asking Genie Bouchard about Justin Bieber during her breakthrough year. Sh-t, even I asked her about it. Because when she was, like, 18 or something, she mentioned somewhere that she had a crush on him. And they’re both Canadian. Full Story

Sports Illustrated interviewed Tom Brady after he’d had a chance to process his Super Bowl win. At the end, they discussed what it was like, coming home, coming down after the high of the victory. Here’s how he described it. And it’s making everyone horny: Brady: “I had a nice moment with my wife Tuesday morning. Full Story
