Normally I’d post this in LifeStyle but Chanel’s always a spectacle and every other runway has been cockblocked by Amal Alamuddin so Karl had to do something extra, as he does. The clothes were secondary to the messages. A rally. A protest rally. And that becomes fashion. Full Story

Lainey sent me the Billboard article about Meghan Trainor because she likes to see me rage. HEADLINE:  “I don’t consider myself a feminist” CONTEXTUAL QUOTE:  "I don't consider myself a feminist, but I'm down for my first opportunity to say something to the world to be so meaningful. Full Story

Lord knows I am usually long-winded. But I am so anxious to have you read the article I just read that brevity is essential. On Friday morning, the NYT article about Shonda Rhimes was published. There was immediate outcry and, most tellingly, there were three or four tweets from Rhimes herself which maybe indicated that this was not the way she had anticipated spending her Friday morning. Full Story

Six months ago, Emma Watson was named UN Women Goodwill Ambassador. She spoke at the UN in New York yesterday to promote a campaign called HeForShe, encouraging men to advocate for women’s rights and gender equality. Her speech was thoughtful and inclusive, arguing that gender stereotyping disadvantages men too – in their roles as fathers, and/or if they are dealing with mental illness, and/or if they are pressured to conform to the social expectation of how a Man should be. Full Story

The ugly side of geek culture

It’s happened before—a critic doesn’t like the latest popular superhero movie and tanks its 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and fanboys flip out and say a bunch of totally over the top, inappropriate stuff in the comments section, embarrassing themselves and second-hand embarrassing nerds at large. Full Story

The most curious article came across my desk this morning. It wasn’t an immediate slam dunk though, because it’s an article in response to an article in response to an article… a bit of unpicking. Leighton Meester is currently starring in Of Mice and Men on Broadway as Curly’s Wife. Full Story

A female Thor, but not for the movies

I don’t want to discount the importance of Marvel choosing to reimagine Thor as a woman for a new comic book run. It’s important that kids—any kid—looks at the characters we deem heroic and see themselves reflected back, and Marvel Comics has been diligent about diversifying their superheroes over the years. Full Story

A couple of weeks ago, Mila Kunis talked to MARIE CLAIRE about how Ashton Kutcher would not be looking at her “shredded” vag when she gives birth to their baby. Well now I can totally see her private/public line and I completely understand what she will and won’t talk about in interviews. Full Story

On Friday news broke that writer/director Rian Johnson, who previously made the most excellent Looper and Brick, would be writing and directing Star Wars Episode VIII and writing the treatment for Episode IX. He won’t actually direct IX — he probably won’t even write the final script—but he’ll set it up and, presumably, be the driving creative force of the Star Wars franchise, sort of like how Joss Whedon is steering the Avengers (and a dead cat is steering the Justice League). Full Story

Dear Gossips,

Today is the deadline for the members of the Television Academy to complete their ballots for the Emmy nominations which will be announced on July 10. This weekend also marks the end of the second season of Orphan Black. And last night Tatiana Maslany was named Best Actress in a Drama Series at the Critics’ Choice TV Awards…

And if you watch the show, you know she deserves it – over and over and over again for every single clone she plays.

If you don’t watch the show… well, you should. Orphan Black AND Orange Is The New Black too, which won Best Comedy Series and two acting awards for Kate Mulgrew and Uzo Aduba.

These woman are doing some great work on the TV.

Will those old ass Emmy people give a sh-t?

Ellen Page and Kate Mara went for a walk together in New York yesterday. Love the hang of Ellen’s jeans. Love Kate’s slip-on animal print kicks. Love that they’re close. Did David Fincher bring them together? Will they be working together? There were some rumours after the first season of True Detective that it would be Ellen and Kate who’d take on season two. Full Story
