Here’s Katie Holmes on the set of The Kennedys: After Camelot in Toronto this week. Works out well that we have these photos today because I was actually thinking about her last night when the Amber Heard Johnny Depp divorce news broke. We know Katie to be a first class marriage escape ninja, leaving an older husband, almost a mega movie star on the decline. The way Katie did it, she ended up with all the sympathy. The way Amber’s doing it, well, not so much sympathy...
But I still like the comparison with these two men, these two men in their 50s, who both, in their own ways, keep clinging to their self-perceptions perhaps way past the point that they should. Tom Cruise is, well, he’s still running into burning buildings and jumping off bridges. Johnny Depp still jams with his band in the garage and…well… I don’t need to itemise the ways in which Johnny Depp has expired his appeal.
And now they’re both single again. And did you think, 5 years ago even, that we’d make this kind of comparison between the two? That Johnny Depp and Tom Cruise would make you cringe in kinda the same way?
