Katie Holmes took Suri to the Kids’ Choice Awards on Saturday night. And Suri clearly enjoyed it. Arms up in the air, trying to shove air balloons into her clutch…she’s 8 now, and this event hits all the sweet spots for someone her age. It must have been magic. By the way, Jamie Foxx was also at Kids’ Choice on Saturday. Full Story

Duana’s (snarky screenwriter) take Oh NO, you guys, terrible news! It seems that Hollywood has gotten a clue, based on how Shondaland kills everything in its path on Thursday nights, how well Jane The Virgin has done, and how Empire has JUGGERNAUTED its way through season one. Hollywood has decided that this pilot season, they should be looking for diversity. Full Story

Deadline published a disgusting article meant to make us mad

Sarah’s (snarky blogger) take Yesterday evening an article by Nellie Andreeva was posted on the industry trade website Deadline—formerly the bastion of hard-edged news harpy Nikki Finke—positing that the current pilot season is shaping up to be the most diverse in recent memory, maybe ever, with more roles opening up to “ethnic actors” following the success of shows like Empire, Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder, and Black-ish. Full Story

The MTV Movie Awards, hosted by Amy Schumer, are coming up. MTV has just announced that the Trailblazer Award will be presented to Shailene Woodley. So… They just invented this award in 2012: “The MTV Trailblazer Award recipient spearheads the way for others that work in the movie industry. Full Story

In January, the cast of Paul Feig’s all-female Ghostbusters reboot/sequel/whatever was announced, and for the most part, everyone was excited about a lady ghostbusting squad. For the most part—there were some whiny diaper baby man-tears shed over women getting their period blood all over the uber-masculine (eye roll) cultural relic that is Ghostbusters. Full Story

John Mayer: the “thinking man’s fiasco”

I said it about Justin Timberlake and it applies to John Mayer – a quote by Maya Angelou: “When someone shows you who they are believe them.” How long have we been sh-tting on John Mayer for? A long time. Because he keeps showing us who he is. And still, for whatever reason, maybe it’s the music, I can’t say for sure since I don’t like the music, there’s always been an unwillingness to accept that he won’t change. Full Story

In the run-up to the Oscars The Hollywood Reporter has started doing this thing where they get select members of the Academy to fill out their Oscar ballot and explain why they’re voting the way they’re voting. So far they have three this year, which you can read here Full Story

Fifty Shades author wants to whip sequel into submission

Whatever we may think of it, Fifty Shades of Grey is an unqualified hit, with $300 million at the worldwide box office and counting. In some respects, that’s a good thing: A movie by women, about women, for women is a monster success. Every time we clock a win like this, it gets that much harder to deny that movies by and about women can’t be profitable, or are somehow “risky”. Full Story

After Eddie Redmayne took the SAG award over the weekend, the Best Actor Oscar race is solidly Redmayne vs. Keaton, with Redmayne gaining an edge. That hasn’t stopped Benedict Cumberbatch from campaigning his ass off, but he probably just tanked whatever chance he had at an upset by making a really unfortunate, very troubling comment about the challenges faced by “colored” actors in the UK. Full Story

One of my favourite Golden Globe moments of all time happened at one of the after-parties in 2011. My etalk colleague Jessi Cruickshank was covering that carpet. And when Mark Wahlberg arrived with his wife, she asked him about Justin Bieber. Which resulted in the most amazing cut-eye bitch-face from Mrs Wahlberg, Rhea Durham. Full Story

We’re not starting with the People’s Choice Awards today. Today we begin with Marilyn Manson and Johnny Depp, because I’ve just finished reading the Rolling Stone article Meg sent over earlier this week and it’s probably the best celebrity profile of the year, even though the year just started. Full Story

The alarm went off this morning. I dropped my eyes. I picked up my phone. There was a text from Duana: “Can we just have a weekly column called f-ck off Aaron Sorkin?!?” Then I opened my browser. And there it was. Aaron Sorkin’s latest f-ck off moment, this time comparing male and female award-winning roles and declaring that it’s a higher “degree of difficulty” for the men. Full Story

Between the Sony hack and the Golden Globes nominations (and snubs), it’s been a great week for gossip. So why are we talking about Ashton Kutcher? Oh, right, because he had a baby. Ashton was on Ellen (what was he promoting – the end of his sh-tty ass sexist stupid sitcom?) and the focus of the interview was the baby and how he and Mila take care of the baby. Full Story

Diversity in Film: The problem at the top

On Friday Rupert Murdoch, elderly white man, took to Twitter to address the whitewashing casting controversy that has surrounded the upcoming movie Exodus: Gods & Guyliner. Christian Bale plays Moses, a Hebrew, Joel Edgerton is the Egyptian pharaoh Ramses, and Sigourney Weaver is their mother, Tuya, also Egyptian. Full Story
