The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences hosted the Governors Awards on Saturday night to honour Angela Lansbury, Steve Martin, Piero Tosi, and Angelina Jolie. Jolie is now the youngest ever recipient of the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Honourary Oscar. She flew in from Australia, where she’s directing her next film, Unbroken, about Louis Zamperini, now 96, who was one of her guests at the event. You’ll see in the video below, she shouts him out during her emotional acceptance speech, calling him her “hero”, as her “love”, Brad Pitt, looked on beside their oldest son Maddox.

Maddox! He is 12. “Madd” was reassured by his mother while she was on stage that she wouldn’t embarrass him. But you see the look on his face – that’s not embarrassment. He seems so… mature! How did this happen so quickly? Yesterday he was in a mohawk sticking his tongue out!

Needless to say, since their kid was with them for the night, the Brange did not pull out the Pitt Porn. But then again, they didn’t have to. It’s always the top story whenever they show up, especially as it’s been so long. She’s working in Australia, he’s working in London, and they’re pacing themselves for a long award season. But the Governors Awards have nothing to do with award season!

Oh please.

Why do you think so many award season hopefuls were there that night to represent some of the top contenders of the year? Matthew McConaughey was campaigning. Mark Wahlberg was campaigning. And Brad, while primarily there to support his Jolie, was also doing some campaigning for 12 Years A Slave; Steve McQueen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Lupita Nyong’o, who seem to have moved temporarily to Los Angeles to work the circuit, were there too.

Still, as Pitt told Deadline, “I’m the one who is really excited” about Jolie’s recognition. And we all win if she’s the same when it might be his turn in 4 months.

PS. Did you know it was Kathryn Bigelow who nominated Angelina for the award?
