Leo gets deep in Japan

Leonardo DiCaprio spent the weekend in Japan promoting Django Unchained. He looks...really good. As I mentioned last week in my post about his arrival there -- click here for a refresher -- Morley and I saw him at the Weinstein pre-Oscar party last Saturday night and he appeared a lot less bloated and gross than he has in a long time. In person, right now, aesthetically at least, everything is working. And there’s video too (thanks Aimee!).
Check out Leo at the press conference discussing his character and motivation in the film. He gets pretty detailed about the process of becoming Calvin Candie and then proceeds to drop a little racial history on the Japanese, at one point bringing phrenology into the discussion...which cracked me up. Not the subject matter but, really, what must have been the reaction. Because Leo, as you know, for many parts of the world, domestic and international, is simply Jack Dawson, the King Of The World. And what they actually want is just for him to hold a woman against the wind facing the ocean, and give up his life for her in the icy waters.
