Rihanna was in Washington, DC last night performing at the Concert for Valor to commemorate Veterans Day. This outfit is sick - a black sequined bodysuit under a black sequined cape and a glorious neckpiece to take it to the next level. She looks incredible. At one point, Eminem came on stage to join her. Full Story

When was the last time you saw Eminem posing at a photo wall? It doesn’t happen. He’s basically a recluse. But last night Dr Dre and Jimmy Iovine were honoured at WSJ Magazine’s Innovator Awards. Out of respect for those two, Eminem made a rare appearance. He even smiled a little. Full Story
Have you watched Selena Gomez’s new video for The Heart Wants What It Wants yet? It was just released this morning. The song is OK. It’s the video that really makes it…something. But first, let’s talk about this expression, “the heart wants what it wants”. She’s not the first person who’s ever said it. Full Story

Las Vegas celebrated Britney Spears yesterday. It's supposed to be an honour... If you're over 50! Britney is 32 years old. Just two years older than Miranda Lambert. So, no. Don't ask me to be congratulatory about this. It's not how it was all supposed to go down. But here we are, pop's former princess, dressed like Liza Minelli (don't tell me you can't see this outfit in Liza's closet), and her face tighter than it was when she was dancing around in a red leather catsuit, her cheekbones fuller and higher, at her Vegas day presentation so, basically, she's Marie Osmond now. It's what we do with celebrities, right? We matchmake, friends and lovers. At least some of us do. So it seems obvious to me that Faith Hill and Nicole Kidman would be friends. They're around the same age, Faith is country royalty, Nicole is Hollywood royalty, they're artists, they could talk about their kids, go to yoga together, get some Botox together, then hit up spin class, record a duet. The Mockingjay Part 1 premiere is Monday. Now that no one knows sh-t about whether or not Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Martin are still together it's given everyone permission to make up stories. This one comes from The Daily Mail. They're saying that Martin Lawrence is on and that Chris will be with Jennifer at the premiere but not walk the carpet but totally be her date inside the event. I was watching a documentary about country music at home the other night. It was Dolly Parton. She was on screen as I was flipping channels. And you don’t change the channel on Dolly. Mostly I just wanted to listen to Dolly talk about her career but some other dudes, all veterans, came on and one of them started complaining about Bro Country, how it’s not real country music and how he doesn’t care about songs that feature “sugar shakers”, thank you very much Florida Georgia Line. Miranda Lambert won a LOT last night. Four times, for a total of 11 CMAs over all, which means she has the most CMAs of any female artist of all time – more than Faith, more than Reba, more than Martina. Miranda Lambert is just 30 years old. She’s definitely not done. And I want to celebrate this, I do. Full Story

The CMA Awards happened last night in Nashville. Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley hosted again. And they are GREAT at it, as comfortable as Amy Poehler and Tina Fey at the Golden Globes, and just as willing to go there. I mean, they were already taking shots at Taylor Swift even before she left country – and you know, YOU KNOW Carrie can’t pass up an opportunity to take shots at Taylor Swift. Full Story
Well, she did it. Taylor Swift’s 1989 sold 1.287 million copies in its first week, the most by any artist since 2002. And it’s her THIRD million plus album in a row – she’s the only artist to EVER do that, especially remarkable since they keep saying that album sales are going down.
It’s one thing to say that the marketing helped. They could afford to send her everywhere – she arrived in Japan yesterday to promote the album overseas – and she’s so active on social media, the Swift brand is practically unstoppable. That’s true, to a point. And if the album sucked, it would the only truth, the only factor.
But 1989 does not suck. 1989 is pure pop, top to bottom – catchy, sing-along-able, and really, really fun. I can’t stop listening to it. Read Full Intro

Beyonce and JayZ (with Ty Ty tagging along) were courtside at Barclay’s last night to watch the Nets. As you can see, she re-bobbed. We’ll come back to these shots in a minute but first… It was reported yesterday that there may be a new secret album drop in the next couple of weeks. Full Story
There’s a rumour going around about a new “surprise” album which… wouldn’t be a surprise anymore if it’s true. Billboard is pointing to a “Release Confirmation” that seems to suggest that Beyonce: Volume 2 is on the way on November 14 (online release) featuring collaborations with Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, and Justin Timberlake. Gwyneth Paltrow has had a great week. Taylor Swift has had an amazing week. She’s been out there hard, pushing 1989. And I’m curious to find out what the first week sales figures are going to be. Because RED was a big number. This one will be a big number too. For sure the biggest number of the year. Full Story
So I think I might disappoint you again with the following: I LOVE the new Taylor Swift album, 1989. It’s a dance in your kitchen kind of album. It’s a play in the background while you’re getting ready with your team kind of album. It’s a play in your car on the way to the airport to drop off your best friend after the most amazing weekend kind of album.
And it’s not that Taylor isn’t pissed anymore. At the boys, at the broken hearts they leave behind. It’s just that she seems a lot less… petulant? Less petulant in her anger? I never thought I’d want to have a conversation with Taylor Swift before, like a real conversation. And now, after listening to this album, after hearing her music, I’m starting to believe Taylor Swift might have something to say.
Or, again, maybe it’s just that I grew up in the 80s. I can’t resist this sound.
