Robert Pattinson by Justin Timberlake
I was eyerolling at Justin Timberlake a few weeks ago for releasing a trailer to a preview to the trailer to the video for Take Back The Night. How many near-orgasms does it take to make an actual orgasm better?
It feels like they followed the same approach for Robert Pattinson’s Dior Homme campaign. There’s been a lot of build-up. And of course there was a trailer released last week. I think I’ve written about the ads 3 or 4 times already – before the ads have even come out.
Finally, earlier this week, they’re available. Some are calling it “film noir” inspired. Really? It’s a pretty standard fragrance ad. The pictures are meant to allure and seduce, the prevailing motivation for smelling nice. In one of the shots Pattinson and the model are putting their clothes back on – the reward for smelling nice. There’s not a lot of mystery involved in selling that, though Pattinson does sell it well; he was made for still imagery.
Unless you’re a Twi-Hard though, especially in comparison to some of the pictures we just saw from legends like Naomi and Linda and Christy, I wouldn’t call it the most ground-breaking, original campaign worthy of the kind of blue-balling they’ve delivered. Sometimes you just gasp harder when it’s dropped on you without warning.
