StratEgery Articles
Articles and photos related to celebrity strategy, politics, and media manipulation. The term "StratEgery" is not a LaineyGossip original. Look up Will Ferrell doing George Bush to understand.
Protecting Jessica Chastain?
Another great example of the “Business of Hollywood” and all the manipulation and strong-arming that characterises the industry. Deadline’s Nikki Finke posted a delicious item yesterday about how Vanity Fair curiously pulled down an article about Jessica Chastain during the Academy’s Oscar voting period. Full Story
Ben shaves his playoff beard

I’m telling you, that’s why the Patriots lost in the Super Bowl to the Giants the first time, in Phoenix. They were undefeated that season. And...Tom Brady CUT HIS HAIR for the only game that mattered! Ben Affleck wasn’t so stupid. He kept a playoff beard going through award season and, well, as we know, it worked. Full Story
Oscar Week and The Girl On Fire
Jennifer Lawrence is considered one of the favourites for Best Actress on Sunday (even though more and more momentum seems to be shifting to Emmanuelle Riva). Taking advantage of her profile going into the weekend, promotional images from two separate campaigns not related to Silver Linings Playbook have been released. Full Story
Taylor & Tom
Well I guess this is how it works with Taylor Swift -- any time she shows up somewhere with a new guy, they must be dating. This new guy is called Tom Odell, a British musician. They met at the BRIT Awards earlier this week. Last night they hit up a pub and then the Groucho Club. (Can you picture Taylor Swift throwing back a pint?) It’s understandable, being in London, on Harry Styles’s territory, why Taylor would want some company. Full Story
Gina & Henry Oscar Week
Wenn, FameFlynet
As I’ve been saying, LA is where you need to be for your career this weekend, if you can manage it. And with the release of Man Of Steel approaching, Henry Cavill needs the face time. Since his girlfriend is the most interesting thing about him -- to me, anyway -- it’s good that she’s along for the ride, although conventional Hollywood publicity strategy might say otherwise. Katie's jumpsuit start

What did I say yesterday?!? In my last post on Thursday I noted that Katie Holmes was out of New York, presumably to do some work on the Oscar circuit as the ex Mrs Tom Cruise, pleading specifically for her NOT to show up wearing her own sh-t. Check out Katie last night...in that f-cking black jumpsuit she designed, and that she's worn on a couple of occasions already. Full Story

Most celebrities, if not already in LA, are en route to LA. Especially this weekend. LA is where some work will be done -- at the parties, on the carpets -- for those who are nominated for Oscars and those not nominated for Oscars. This is where you hint at something over a cocktail, express interest in a part by the pool, anything that sets you up for the Next. Full Story
Calling Clive Davis A Liar
Nikki Nelson /WENN
Kelly Clarkson posted this on WhoSay yesterday. Guaranteed she didn’t take a long time to write it. Not because it’s bad, or anything like that. On the contrary, it is straightforward and passionate – she maybe had one person read it over and then threw it up, shaking a little with rage but feeling better that she did something about it. Why wasn’t this a Super Bowl commercial?
Let’s talk about Leonardo DiCaprio’s commercial for Jim Beam, Asian styles. By North American standards, this is pure cheese, right? That’s why it’s only for Japan. So far, at least. Leo snaps his fingers and the ice earth explodes. And a sexy look to camera. Full Story
Ben Affleck Don Draper
Pablo/ FAMEFLYNET PICTURES
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are going strong, and despite the Oscar snub, my goodness is it paying off. Is Argo pretty much a lock for Best Picture at this point? (I hated it, did anyone else hate it? [Lainey: I liked it very much.] And I usually really enjoy Ben’s direction). The success of the Affleck campaign is due in no small part to Ben and Jen’s Walt and June Cleaver act. Full Story
Jennifer Aniston’s Birthday Week
Jackson Lee/ Splash, INF
It was Jennifer Aniston’s birthday on Monday. She’s 44 now. A monkey! PEOPLE Magazine celebrated their holiest day of the year with an article about, obviously, her hair. Jen’s been working in Connecticut on the untitled Elmore Leonard movie. Full Story

Jennifer Garner did indeed accompany Ben Affleck to the BAFTAs. Must leave nothing to chance. Not until February 24. Not until the big show. She’s the Mellie Grant of Hollywood. Which is why while Bradley Cooper and the rest were getting sweaty and messy at the BAFTA parties, the Afflecks kept their game faces on. Full Story

Check this out -- Justin Timberlake hosted an art exhibit last night with Amy Adams showing the work of her partner Darren Le Gallo. JT’s wife was there too and together they had their moment with Paul Thomas Anderson who, of course, directed Adams recently in The Master, for which she received yet another Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination. Jennifer’s grey bag on the way to the BAFTAs
This is Jennifer Lawrence heading out of LA en route to London yesterday ahead of the BAFTAs on Sunday where she’s nominated for Leading Actress alongside Jessica Chastain, Marion Cotillard, Helen Mirren, and Emmanuelle Riva. It’ll be the first major event where Chastain, Lawrence, and Riva go head to head. Full Story
