My colleague Ben Mulroney, the host of etalk, is pretty tall. Probably 6 ft 2. I can’t remember Ben ever interviewing someone and having to hold the mic UP to the subject. Until I watched it on the monitor during the live red carpet show yesterday as he spoke to Armie Hammer. Armie Hammer looked to be at least a couple of inches taller than Ben. Full Story

And so Leonardo DiCaprio was on set yesterday filming in several costumes, first at the house, in pyjamas, and then at night with Dame Judi Dench and Armie Hammer, who plays his lover, all dressed up for a black tie affair. To be the dude in between Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy courtside at the Laker game last night? What would she thief in exchange for it? Leo and Tom had a little Inception reunion while watching Los Angeles lose a close one at the buzzer to the San Antonio Spurs. It was a better effort than they’ve put up lately…but for a while now they haven’t been able to bring their best against the better teams in the league, not even with Leo’s golden touch? The Social Network, as you know, has been winning everything. And most believed they would win the Producers’ Guild Award too. It’s not often that Hollywood folks are surprised at these events. But it was a surprise to most when the unstoppable TSN was passed over on Saturday night at the PGAs in favour of The King’s Speech – yay! The PGAs have accurately predicted the last three Best Picture Oscar winners. Full Story
As announced several weeks ago, NBR named The Social Network the Best Film of 2010. The cast was at the gala last night to celebrate the honour, along with Jesse Eisenberg who was named Best Actor and David Fincher who was named Best Director. Oh yeah and Best Adapted Screenplay for Aaron Sorkin. Stephen Colbert had the best line on Sorkin actually when, in introducing the picture Full Story
What a smart move. It is the leader going into awards season. It will likely fight it out at the Oscars with The King’s Speech. It will probably win. But first, to sustain its momentum, the DVD will be released on January 11th. That’ll give The Social Network some extra kick. Clever, non? In service of the launch, and a very strategic campaign, all of the film’s major players were in Beverly Hills last night at the event including Jesse Eisenberg, expected to be nominated for Best Actor, Aaron Sorkin, a sure bet for an adapted screenplay nod, David Fincher, who will definitely make the Academy’s list of directors, Andrew Garfield, Armie Hammer, and, of course, Justin Timberlake.
