Oscars 2010 & Jimmy Kimmell for 2011?
It may be an unpopular sentiment but Steven Martin and Alec Baldwin worked for me. We laughed heartily in the press room. But they couldn’t save a show that was too long, poorly directed, and terribly produced. Enjoyed the 5 actor tribute to the Best Actor and Actress categories, it worked to build suspense, but that dumbass montage to horror with the mismatched music and the uneven pacing of the programme gave it an overall feeling of... flat. It was flat. And that flatness was made even more evident with Kimmel’s show immediately afterwards. Did you see the Handsome Men’s Club? The Handsome Men’s Club f-cking owned me.
Sure... it helps with so many superstars. It helps that the piece was reasonably well edited – don’t think for a second those bitches were in the same room at the same time – and of course in late night there are certain liberties that can be taken that wouldn’t be allowed in prime time.
But imagine if Kimmel hosted the Oscars? It was a self nomination for the job next year. Watch. It’s worth your 10 minutes.
As for the rest of it, the clothes, the interviews, the speeches – that commentary is to follow. With help from my dear friend Duana who has agreed to tagteam on this monumental day of posting. She is putting up with my messiness in our room, tolerating my stressed out, tunnel vision rudeness, and she also claimed the last pair Alexander Wang olive booties at Opening Ceremony before anyone else could snatch them away. Look at them. And hers are GREEN.
Sorry... I digress.
Here are the best and worst. We will probably be fighting. I loved Maggie Gyllenhaal’s dress. So we will probably be fighting. As always, can’t wait to read your emails. Please do send! I may not be able to reply to all but I read every message and I am so grateful that you have taken the time to write.
