Saoirse is versatile
Lovely Saoirse Ronan is still promoting The Lovely Bones which, after a pushed back release, hasn’t been performing too badly. Obviously not the awards bait it was predicted to be last summer after critical annihilation but with a revamped marketing strategy focusing on teen girls, Bones isn’t a complete bust financially, and sometimes that’s all that matters.
Despite terrible reviews however, Saoirse’s performance was widely praised. And her emergence on the style front has been delightful as well. Here she is dressed up in Ireland tonight at the premiere in black and bright shoes and last week in Japan dressed down with cute kicks.
Saoirse is 15, turning 16 in April and is now directly challenging Dakota Fanning for the “next” title. She will be working again with Joe Wright who brought her along in Atonement playing a young girl raised as an assassin by her father who struggles for a different life. I thought about her as a possibility for Kit in The Outcast but have since decided that Kit needs to be a complete revelation. Someone new and fresh and totally unmolested by recognition.
Have you heard?
John Madden is directing the film adaptation of The Outcast. F-ck revisionist Oscar history. Shakespeare in Love was brilliant. Am hopeful, am hopeful. But then again, I was hopeful when Jackson took over Bones. Bah.
