The only conversation I want to continue about The Fight is about the coverage. And specifically the two prominent female journalists who’d been critical of Floyd Mayweather and were not initially issued credentials. Several journalists, in fact, were allegedly banned by Team Mayweather because they called him out for his pattern of domestic abuse.
Michelle Beadle was then subsequently attacked on social media for… speaking up? This is a woman who has a voice and is willing to use it to remind us that we’ve glorified a man who has repeatedly abused women, a man who once compared women to cars:
“Even though you can’t drive ten cars at one time, you got people that got ten cars. So, you’re able to keep maintenance on ten cars. So, I feel that as far as it comes to females, that same thing should apply. If you’re able to take care of 20, then you should have 20.”
Mayweather reportedly made as much as $180 million on Saturday night. And Michelle Beadle isn’t allowed to shake a fist at the sky. Click here for the background on the story. It’s 2015. And it’s still so easy to silence a woman.
A hard turn now…
MET Gala tonight! We take it very seriously here, as seriously as a major award show. So it’ll be an all-nighter. Join us if you’re staying up late! And send us your comments – bitch away, judge away, and, by all means, please… YELL.

On Sunday everyone was complaining about how Avengers: Age of Ultron only made a huge fortune, instead of a mega-huge fortune, at the box office. By that evening, despite Ultron swallowing money like a ravening monster, the thinkpiece machine was in motion, cranking out essays about superhero fatigue (not happening), what went wrong with Marvel this weekend (nothing), and should we consider a movie that raked in $188 million, bagging the second-biggest domestic opening weekend of all time, a disappointment (no). If you have social media, you’ve used it to show off. Come on. How do you resist the temptation? Are you on holiday somewhere awesome? Are you posing on the beach? Are you at that concert that everyone wants to go to? Did you get into a super exclusive party? While out for dinner, did you run into a celebrity and boast about it to all your followers? For celebrities on Saturday night, being at The Fight was the grand magnum of showing off. Full Story

Right? In case you didn’t know. There have been rumours all week, and my friend L even indicated that her secret sources said it was going to be Charlotte all the way back mid-last week. But I didn’t want to think that it was true until, you know, now. I am disappointed. I am frustrated. Full Story

Jennifer Lawrence is one of the co-chairs of tonight’s MET Gala. The theme is China: Through The Looking Glass. Not entirely sure how she specifically relates to that theme but whatever. She’s a big name. She’s a big draw for the event. And, given her association with Dior, I can’t imagine she’ll be wearing anything but Dior…as “inspired” by Chinese culture? Oftentimes MET Gala attendees don’t bother with the theme at all. Full Story
Genie Bouchard covers the new issue of FLARE. It’s been almost a year since Genie made it to the Wimbledon final. As you know, she lost. And she was devastated. She was also criticised for the way she reacted afterwards. Here’s how she explains it now, with some perspective: “I’m very hard on myself. Full Story

Mad Men Season 7 Episode 12 recap You know, last week Matthew Weiner gave an interview about the endless analysis (hi Matthew!) of the show, and dealing with people who don’t like where he’s taken the last seven episodes, and basically saying people who want to complain should get their own show and see what decisions they make. Game of Thrones Season 5 Episode 4 Recap Slightly boring episode this week since there isn’t a strong theme uniting the different narrative threads. We do get to catch up with the agenda down in Dorne—chiefly that Ellaria Sand and the super awesome kickass Sand Snakes are going to f*ck some Lannister sh*t up—but mostly it’s just table-setting for future episodes. If you’ve been reading this blog a while, you know I like to get down with a good horny book. And I’ve recommended several. Yesterday on The Social we interviewed filmmaker Laurie Kahn whose documentary Love Between The Covers is screening at Hot Docs this week.
Love Between The Covers is about horny books – the women who write them and the women who read them. Romance is the most lucrative genre in publishing. Romance authors are regarded as the most inclusive community of writers, supporting and promoting each other and their audience. Read Full Intro

Eddie Redmayne and Hannah Bagshawe arrived in New York today presumably ahead of Monday’s MET Gala. He’s been before. But never as the Best Actor. The MET Gala will be the first major red carpet he’s been on since winning the Oscar in February. And before that, you’ll recall, it was MONTHS of red carpets and screenings which, obviously, paid off. Full Story
This week The Cut had a story on clique-stalking. I’m a total social media stalker (um, for “research” purposes). If you want to fall down an LA rabbit hole, a great place to start is with jewelry designer Jen Meyer Maguire. She has the trifecta of connections – birth, marriage, business. Full Story

Or more? It’s May 1. My personal rule is no bare legs before May 1 if I’m at home. Going bare legs today! May 1 also means that Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris are starting a new month together as a couple. It was at the end of March that it first broke that the two were together. Full Story
