Four and his hair
The first image of Theo James as Four in Divergent was released the other day. As you know, Veronica Roth’s series about Tris Prior has been my jam for a couple of years now, ever since I ripped through a copy of it while sunburning my ass in Barbados in 2011. Click here Full Story

This one’s for Sarah, Marisela, and all you fans of Justified -- first look at Timothy Olyphant shooting This Is Where I Leave You, the film adaptation of Jonathan Tropper’s wonderfully hilarious book. Please read this. Maybe after you read his How To Talk To A Widower which is also really, really funny and heartbreaking. Full Story
Someday, Someday Maybe – A Novel

Each summer has historically been a wasteland for Parenthood fans who juuuust got off the anxiousness of wondering whether their show has returned. But this year, there was Monica Potter being delightfully real in yesterday’s Hollywood Reporter Roundtable (click here Full Story
Dear Gossips,
Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy.
The title of the third Bridget book by Helen Fielding was just confirmed today. It will be released in October. And what is Bridget up to now? The publisher’s notes only revealed the following:
“The novel is set in present-day London; Bridget is older; she is still keeping a diary, but she is also immersed in texting and experimenting with social media, with an accent on ‘social.’”
And here’s an excerpt:

11.27 p.m. Just presss d SEND. Iss fineisn't it?
You see, this is the trouble with the modern world. If it was the days of letter-writing, I would never even have started to find his address, a pen, a piece of paper, an envelope, a stamp, and gone outside at 11. Read Full Intro
Dr Affleck
FameFlynet, Handout/ Getty
Ben Affleck was in Rhode Island for the weekend where he received an honourary doctorate in Fine Arts from Brown University. He’s Dr Affleck now. Would you change all your business cards and signature block on your email? I totally would. I might not insist that people call me Dr Lui, but it would be nice. Full Story
Tiger Eyes
First call up the memory. The dusty book with the library smell and the girl from the book-modelling place (where do they find those people)? The utter unfamiliarity of New Mexico for most of her readers, who were conditioned to believe that all Judy Blume books would happen a train ride away from Manhattan. Full Story
Lack of Diverse Imagination
I don’t like feeling duped… Last night I got all screechy hysterical on Twitter over what was promised to be a “sneak peek” of Divergent. Basically I was one step away from calling Lainey to hold my hand while we watched. Bah. This single photo is not a sneak peek Full Story
Dear Gossips,
Back in October, I mentioned that I was engrossed in a book called Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter. It was recommended to me at TIFF by the National Post’s Shinan Govani. I remember he very specifically said to me at a party late one night, while we were waiting for Kristen Stewart to show up, I think, that “Lainey, the Elizabeth Taylor fan in you will love this book”. That was enough for me to not buy it online and get the hardcover copy instead.
It was announced yesterday that Beautiful Ruins will be adapted for film, with the author Walter co-writing the screenplay with director, Todd Field. Todd Field of course is of In The Bedroom and Little Children, both mega acclaimed, and both films that confront conventional assumptions, calling out the hypocrisy of our social and cultural standards, without beating you over the head with it, so that the stank beneath our Norman Rockwell daydreams reveals itself gradually, but irrevocably, and one day you can no longer deny that Jesus, I am living in sh-t. A month of Gwyneth
Wenn, FameFlynet
Exactly four weeks to go. In four weeks, Pepper Potts will be in theatres. Oh, of course, and Iron Man too. Iron Man 3 comes out on May 3. Sarah from Cinesnark has been calling it her favourite movie of the year. And most movie fans share her enthusiasm. Full Story
Chris & Coldplay support GOOP
Gwyneth Paltrow’s second cookbook It’s All Good was released this week. People are praising it and trashing it all over the place. Many of you have linked me to this Washington Post article that both praises and trashes her. Which, to me, as you’d know if you’ve been reading my blog long enough, is how I approach my G. Before I Go To Sleep with Nicole Kidman
Here she is in London yesterday shooting what I presume is the film adaptation of S J Watson’s book? Have you read it? If we’re talking literary thrillers, I preferred Before I Go To Sleep over Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl. Sleep is the creepy version of Drew Barrymore’s 50 First Dates. Full Story
Dear Gossips,
It finally happened. After a two year drought, it’s finally happened. I’ve fallen in love... with a book! The last time was Emma Forrest’s Your Voice In My Head and I worried she’d ruined me forever. I tried everything. I went against type. I said yes to every recommendation. I went online. I was book-easy and indiscriminate...but Book Love, it cannot be forced. And besides, when it does arrive, you know, and then you realise it was worth waiting for.
Kate Atkinson’s Life After Life is totally worth waiting for. I’d wait for it all over again. You’ll be happy to have waited for it too, when it’s over. It was over for me last night after one of those weekends -- you know, when you can’t leave each other alone? Life After Life came everywhere with me in LA. Read Full Intro
Shailene Woodley and The Fault In Our Stars
I apologise in advance. For many of you, The Fault In Our Stars by John Green was one of the best books of 2012. I liked it ok. But I didn’t love it. I didn’t cry. I tried to cry, I did. But it just wasn’t there for me. And I’m sorry. Maybe it’s because I’ve read a lot of YA? Green’s Looking For Alaska and Will Grayson, Will Grayson were better, in my mind. Full Story
This is your Four
Remember when some silly random rumour went around about Alex Pettyfer confirming the coveted part of Four in Divergent? It will not be Alex Pettyfer. It will be Theo James. You may know him as Mr Pamuk from Season 1 of Downton Abbey whose body they had to drag down the hall. Or if you watch Golden Boy on CBS. Full Story
