So, you know what that means: he’ll be pushing Granny Freeze for an Oscar campaign next year. (By the way, the Oscars will be held back to March 2, 2014 to accommodate the Olympics. Full Story
Best Oscar Display of Humanity: Meryl Streep

I was hardly the only one to see it, but I am delighted that we now have the potential to recapture it. This is fantastic. The best actress in the world picks her wedgie (I would also have accepted “adjusts her fullback underwear”), and not only smiles with grace about it, but somehow intuits that the camera has caught this and smilingly explains “I was worried I was going to step on my dress”. It’s been exactly 10 days since she won her third Oscar. Here’s Meryl Streep was in Japan today to promote The Iron Lady.March is Women’s History Month in the US. Thursday is International Women’s Day. When Streep came backstage last Sunday to the press room, she was asked about the National Women’s History Museum and she spoke on the subject with such passion and commitment, it was obvious what matters more to her in the end. Meryl in gold for gold

They showed a clip of Meryl Streep being presented her last Oscar before last night by Sylvester Stallone and she was in a gold dress that wasn’t dissimilar to what she wore this time around, as if she’d been advised by my ma the Chinese Squawking Chicken about lucky feng shui colours. Well...it worked. Full Story
Worst Organic: Colin & Livia Firth

It’s so great that she’s all about green style but there has to be a vegan dress that’s an improvement on this one, non? I really do love Livia Firth. But this is an abomination; there’s no other way to say it. Happily though, her dress didn’t have to go up on stage with him to present Best Actress.“We were in Greece. Full Story

Meryl Streep was honoured with the Golden Bear Award at the Berlinale last night with Jake Gyllenhaal presenting. Jake grew up hanging out with Meryl's son and he told a story about the two of them, being young and bratty, getting into trouble, and how he was afraid of Mrs Streep back then. And now.The details of their shenanigans are not important. Full Story
Best BAFTA 2012: Meryl Streep

I think this Vivienne Westwood is glorious on her. Magestic. And it's great encouragement too. That a woman of Meryl's merit, maturity, and stature can wear the SH-T out of a designer garment that was originally sent down the runway on an 18 year old genetic freak. There's also something to be said about her reaction to winning. Full Story
Meryl gets Aloofed

With all the sh-t we’ve been throwing at Rooney Mara for her excessive “aloof”-ness, how much do you LOVE this photo of her aloofing (by photo assumption) Meryl Streep yesterday at the Oscar Nominees Luncheon? True story - I had people over the other night for the Super Bowl. My friend Fiona was cheering for the Giants because she likes the Mannings. Full Story
GG Best Improv/Worst Cowgirl: Meryl Streep

Lainey called me out last night, and she was right, for pussy footing around the fact that The Iron Lady suuuuucked. I mean, not just a little bit. That movie was really, really bad …but you got so distracted by Meryl. There was a moment in the movie where she communicated with her face “well, I could, not that he would care anyway, but what’s a mother to do, these days? That’s my lot in life”. Full Story

Will Meryl campaign?
Still not convinced that Meryl Streep will finally win her 3rd Oscar for The Iron Lady. So many people are fanning themselves over the brilliance of her performance as Margaret Thatcher and I’m always happy to hop on a Meryl bandwagon, totally, but ... I just don’t feel it from her this time around. Have you seen the second trailer? I’ve attached it below. Full Story
Meryl in the middle

Could this be the year after so many years? I dunno. I mean, she’s Meryl Streep. She is extraordinary. But there are many members of the Academy keenly aware that, really, she already has two of them. Still, a lot of it seems to be falling in the right place. Meryl was in Washington this weekend for the Kennedy Centre Honours alongside fellow recipients Neil Diamond, Barbara Cook, Yo-Yo Ma, and Sonny Rollins. Full Story
Award season shaping
The New York Film Critics Circle announced their winners today and the Spirit Awards also released their list of nominees which means the Oscar races are starting to take shape. The NBR will reveal on Thursday, and more and more critics circles will follow in the coming days and weeks, giving a clearer picture of what to expect from the Academy but the purpose of what happened today in New York, as they intended, was to blow out of the gate first.
