10 films, 10 days, 8 parties, over four thousand words written and the Toronto International Film Festival is finally over. I am writing to you all from Los Angeles where I will spend the next week hibernating. Here’s something some of you may not know: I don’t party; I mean, I do, but rarely. Full Story

TIFF Review: Much Ado About Nothing (and a few other things)

I’ve done this movie a great disservice and I feel very guilty about it. I sat down to watch Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing towards the end of the film festival. Bad idea. You see, what’s both exciting and completely soul sucking about the Toronto International Film Festival is that there are always movies to see and places to be. Full Story

Until I saw this film on the TIFF schedule, I didn’t even know it existed. But damn am I glad it does. Bad 25 is a fantastic documentary – a Spike Lee Joint – that takes you on an intimate tour behind the scenes during the making of Michael Jackson’s Bad record and world tour. Full Story

TIFF REVIEW: The Paperboy

I saw The Paperboy with a few friends. Half of them were thoroughly entertained, half of them were bored by it. I found myself caught somewhere in the middle. The Paperboy, for those of you who are unfamiliar, is that movie where Nicole Kidman pees on Zac Efron. Or at least that’s how the gossip blogs are spinning it. Full Story

TIFF REVIEW: Spring Breakers. Or the time I felt like I did 47 jello shots and passed out with no clothes on

I debated about writing my Spring Breakers experience as one long stream of consciousness because trying to articulate my feelings about this film in any other form seemed almost impossible. But here goes… I left the movie, directed by cult film icon Harmony Korine, feeling like I had just spent twenty-four hours in a trashy nightclub. Full Story

PEOPLE Magazine has just named Gwyneth Paltrow the World’s Best Dressed Woman. Is PEOPLE a fashion authority? Check out Gwyneth in black at TIFF the other night. Jessi Cruickshank, who was assigned to that carpet for etalk, said it was spectacular in person and she’s never been a fan of the G. Full Story

I've had to medicate with a lot of vodka to get over this one. The Anna Karenina party was on Friday at Soho House. I had an invitation to go. Obviously I was going. F-ck! Our show is Canadian. Ryan Gosling is Canadian. He's a big deal here. He's a big deal everywhere. And, as you know, Sam and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, in comparison, they're an acquired taste. Full Story

TIFF REVIEW: End Of Watch

End Of Watch is the latest gritty cop thriller from writer/director, David Ayer. He’s made an eye opener of a movie that gives us a glimpse into what it’s like to patrol the mean streets of South Central Los Angeles. And I’ll tell you one thing, I never want to be abandoned on those streets. Full Story

Winona Ryder was in our etalk lounge today. It’s impossible how beautiful she is. Like, you can’t even imagine how much more beautiful in person. Anyway, as far as I know, the conjuring hasn’t worked yet. Winona’s premiere is tonight. Johnny was here for the documentary West Of Memphis on Saturday. Full Story

Grey Goose Soho House is where they go to end their night at TIFF. The Blunt-Krasinskis, Alexander Skarsgard, Bradley Cooper, many others, have all made multiple appearances. Kristen Stewart went on Saturday night to meet up with Jennifer Lawrence. By the time I got there after Lauryn Hill (OMG!) they were up on the third floor in a corner, talking closely. Full Story

Again, I feel the urge to apologise first. Not that I’m sorry about them being together and certainly not now having seen them in real life because, Jesus, it’s almost too much sexy in one couple, but sorry that you all seem to harbour some hate for them, or her, and so I’m sorry for the following details from after the screening for The Place Beyond The Pines. Full Story

TIFF REVIEW: The Perks Of Being A Wallflower

I have to begin by confessing that I have not read The Perks of Being a Wallflower. And I can safely say that I regret letting it slip through the cracks. Because if a movie this good came from a book, I can only imagine how transformative that book must be.  As a movie, The Perks of Being a Wallflower will go down as one of the great coming of age classics. Full Story

TIFF REVIEW: On The Road

I can’t wait to hear people’s reactions to this movie. Director Walter Salles was faced with a daunting task, one that many might argue was virtually impossible to successfully accomplish: turn Jack Kerouac’s barely fictionalized autobiography, On The Road, often referred to as one of the most important novels of the century, into a film that wouldn’t crumble under the weight of such tremendously high expectations. Full Story

The Taylor-Johnsons are in Toronto. I’m in Toronto. OMG. Here they are arriving yesterday with daughters Wylda Rae and Romy Hero for the TIFF premiere of Anna Karenina. They are the opposite of the Paltrow-Martins: we do everything together. I want to see them at a party together. But now that I see that their babies are with them, I wonder if that’s not likely. Full Story
