The most curious article came across my desk this morning. It wasn’t an immediate slam dunk though, because it’s an article in response to an article in response to an article… a bit of unpicking. Leighton Meester is currently starring in Of Mice and Men on Broadway as Curly’s Wife. Full Story
I don’t want to discount the importance of Marvel choosing to reimagine Thor as a woman for a new comic book run. It’s important that kids—any kid—looks at the characters we deem heroic and see themselves reflected back, and Marvel Comics has been diligent about diversifying their superheroes over the years. Last night (former) SNL castmember Brooks Wheelan tweeted this funny and self-deprecating annoucement: Had a blast and loved every second of it. I'm totally honored to be able to make this next joke... FIRED FROM NEW YORK IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT! — Brooks Wheelan (@brookswheelan) July 14, 2014 Full Story
A couple of weeks ago, Mila Kunis talked to MARIE CLAIRE about how Ashton Kutcher would not be looking at her “shredded” vag when she gives birth to their baby. Well now I can totally see her private/public line and I completely understand what she will and won’t talk about in interviews. Full Story
On Friday news broke that writer/director Rian Johnson, who previously made the most excellent Looper and Brick, would be writing and directing Star Wars Episode VIII and writing the treatment for Episode IX. He won’t actually direct IX — he probably won’t even write the final script—but he’ll set it up and, presumably, be the driving creative force of the Star Wars franchise, sort of like how Joss Whedon is steering the Avengers (and a dead cat is steering the Justice League). Today is the deadline for the members of the Television Academy to complete their ballots for the Emmy nominations which will be announced on July 10. This weekend also marks the end of the second season of Orphan Black. And last night Tatiana Maslany was named Best Actress in a Drama Series at the Critics’ Choice TV Awards…
And if you watch the show, you know she deserves it – over and over and over again for every single clone she plays.
If you don’t watch the show… well, you should. Orphan Black AND Orange Is The New Black too, which won Best Comedy Series and two acting awards for Kate Mulgrew and Uzo Aduba.
These woman are doing some great work on the TV.
Will those old ass Emmy people give a sh-t?
Ellen Page and Kate Mara went for a walk together in New York yesterday. Love the hang of Ellen’s jeans. Love Kate’s slip-on animal print kicks. Love that they’re close. Did David Fincher bring them together? Will they be working together? There were some rumours after the first season of True Detective that it would be Ellen and Kate who’d take on season two. Here’s Angelina Jolie on the second day of the Global Summit To End Sexual Violence In Conflict. As you know, the summit started yesterday. And you know who showed up to support? No. Not a member of the royal family. Well, maybe rock royalty. Stella McCartney. She posted this on her Instagram Full Story

The Global Summit To End Sexual Violence In Conflict kicked off today in London, hosted by Angelina Jolie and William Hague. Delegates representing over 140 countries are expected to attend and find ways to implement actionable solutions to prevent further atrocities. “Every year, 150 million girls and women are raped in conflict around the world, along with 70 million men and boys, and the overwhelming majority of them never get justice. Emma Watson graduated from Brown University this weekend. Here she is at the commencement ceremony yesterday in Rhode Island. I love that this is still… monumental. That having a degree – in her case English literature – is still a big deal. She may have been the only graduate with her own security team but the excitement was the same. Full Story

Mother’s Day is this weekend and as we scramble for last-minute reservations and stress out about the slim pickings in the drugstore greeting card aisle, Gwyneth, via GOOP is all about Ending the Mommy Wars. She starts off her newsletter with her usual personal note and mentions how a few weeks ago she gave an interview about being a working mom and preferring a 9-to-5 schedule, which she thinks gives women an opportunity to project their feelings about the subject onto her. There’s been a lot of talk this week about Rihanna’s Instagram account. First they shut her down. Then they turned her back on. Now the account is gone again. And it appears she’s the one who pulled it. The issue is nudity. And censorship. She’s done with them trying to silence what she believes is her right to post pictures of herself in whatever form she wants. Full Story
