Oh look. It’s Megan Fox on the set of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 in New York and you’re thinking of Britney Spears. Me, I’m thinking of Michael Bay. And whether or not this is the Michael Bay Women’s Team uniform. After all, this is a Michael Bay production. Would Michael Bay ever allow a female actor in one of his movies to wear drop-crotch pants? A baggy tee? Or even an A-line dress? I’m actually surprised Michael Bay would even cast Megan Fox. Full Story

Lady Ghostbusters are the only interesting kind of Ghostbusters

So says Paul Feig, the director of the all-female Ghostbusters reboot. In an interview with AlloCine while promoting Spy, Feig said the only way he can see to remake Ghostbusters is to reimagine it with women. I love that he says this, that the only way it makes sense to him is as a female-driven project. Full Story

After-bro: The Entourage movie

I read a great article over at Slate this weekend: How Entourage went from critical darling to cultural punching bag. Basically we’ve changed since Entourage first launched. We’ve asked for more in the way women are represented, not just in relationship to men, but in the way we ask for better from them. Full Story

Ryan Gosling was photographed yesterday in Hollywood, apparently on break from shooting The Big Short in New Orleans. He looks really good here. Last time I posted pictures of him he had dark hair (click here for a refresher) and I still haven’t washed the bad flavour away yet. Full Story

Rebel Wilson’s hella stupid scandal

This week the internet was scandalized when an Australian tabloid ran a story asserting that Rebel Wilson has been lying about her age and background since breaking out in Bridesmaids. Wilson’s age of record was 29, and she had at various points claimed to grow up in the “ghetto” with “bogan” (working class) parents. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

Have you watched the Feeling Myself video yet? I can’t stop watching Beyonce and Nicki Minaj dedicate an entire video to celebrating themselves.

Please.

Isn’t every video a self-celebration? If you’re going to do it – and they ALL do it – you might as well do it with really, REALLY good hair and makeup, toned legs and asses, and some burgers. I change my mind about my favourite part every time I hit repeat but right now, I love it when they eat the burgers. And groove while they’re eating the burgers. And, yes, feeling themselves. Oh they feel themselves real hard.

It’s the rise of the huge female ego. Two at a time. And I am totally OK with this.

Quick programming note: I’m at Disneyland with The Social for the next few days as we’re coming live from the park this week. Have tried to prep the column before I have to leave for rehearsals and shoots and Sarah’s handling several posts while I’m on set. If anything breaks, I’ll try to write from my phone. Thanks in advance for understanding.

Yours in gossip,

Lainey

Tom Cruise’s gap

Tom Cruise is currently in Atlanta working on Mena. Here he is on set yesterday showing off a gap in his teeth, obviously for the character. He’s playing Barry Seal, a real life pilot in the 80s who became a drug smuggler. Seal was supposedly a really big dude. Like 300 lbs. So initially everyone was thinking Tom would gain some weight. Full Story

Emily Blunt’s Cannes debut

Emily Blunt has been to Cannes for a few parties here and there. But I don’t recall ever seeing her at the Palais, representing her own film. It’s well worth the wait though as she was joined by Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin today at the photo call for Denis Villeneuve’s Sicario, in competition at the festival and receiving solid reviews so far, particularly for Emily’s performance and her role to begin with. Full Story

The photo call and presser for Mad Max: Fury Road happened in Cannes this morning. Click here to read my review from yesterday. I have no doubt the audience at the Palais would have loved it. Like I wrote yesterday, the movie is straight up, balls out mental. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

As Sarah wrote the other day, one of most highly anticipated films premiering in Cannes is Todd Haynes’s Carol starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara. Cate covers the new issue of Variety in support of the film. And since the film is about romance between two women, she talks about whether or not she’s ever been involved with women:

“Yes. Many times.”

That’s all I need to know. Because she doesn’t qualify it (“I was experimenting in college”), she doesn’t diminish it (“I was drunk”), and she doesn’t discount it (“I realised I’m only into men”). Her attitude about it, that she doesn’t label her attraction, is almost casual, matter of fact.  Read Full Intro

Joss Whedon quits Twitter, world implodes

On Monday, Joss Whedon quit Twitter. I assumed it was because with Avengers: Age of Ultron open in all the theaters everywhere, he was finally done promoting it and so he deleted his Twitter page, which was started two years ago to promote a movie. I didn’t think much of it at first, but by the end of the day the internet was going nuts, saying that Whedon didn’t quit, he was run out of electrical town on rails by a horde of rage-feminists who were mad at him for something about the Black Widow. Full Story

Amy Schumer, 12 Angry Men, and Reasonable Chub

I know that I always start articles all “go watch this then come back”. And I also know that sometimes there’s just not time. I do it too. Sometimes I just read the article about the thing instead of watching the thing. But if you don’t watch this episode of Amy Schumer, you will have missed out on a seminal moment in entertainment. Full Story

I’ve always said Jeremy Renner is good for gossip, and he is certainly giving us something to talk about recently. The Avengers: Age of Ultron press tour was famously peppy, and during an interview Renner and Chris Evans stepped in a pile of internet dog sh*t when they called Black Widow a “slut Full Story

Dear Gossips,

If you’ve been reading this blog a while, you know I like to get down with a good horny book. And I’ve recommended several. Yesterday on The Social we interviewed filmmaker Laurie Kahn whose documentary Love Between The Covers is screening at Hot Docs this week.

Love Between The Covers is about horny books – the women who write them and the women who read them. Romance is the most lucrative genre in publishing. Romance authors are regarded as the most inclusive community of writers, supporting and promoting each other and their audience.  Read Full Intro
