It’s her new song. It’s the first new song in a long time that isn’t a dance track. Which, even though I don’t love it, and I certainly don’t feel about it the way I feel about Everytime, is a refreshing change. For the last few years, they’ve just hidden her behind the beat and all kinds of computer sounds. Not that there isn’t a certain amount of studio trickery here but it’s also much more identifiable as Britney. And, in particular, the video for Perfume will call for …some emoting, at least?
Britney used to EMOTE in her videos, remember? Think of the way she looked at the camera, head tilted down slightly, quivering her lips. Even the way she walked in her videos was different. Remember in Everytime, when they’re being escorted down the hallway, as she and Stephen Dorff were still fighting? When was the last time you saw her walk like that?
Now that I’ve heard the song, I really want to see what they’re going to do with the video. She’s leaving her scent on a man she suspects is cheating on her. So… there’s a chance we might get more than too many quick cuts, all kinds of light distractions, and sh-tty moves.
