Alright, alright, alright…
It’s not really a song. But everyone seems to be singing it. And wanting to hear it. And we heard it last night when he won Best Drama Actor at Critics’ Choice, presented by Jessica Chastain, who threw out an “alright, alright, alright” when she opened the envelope and announced his name. I think Jared Leto may have included one during his acceptance speech too – a better one than what he gave at the Globes.
McConaughey was perfect last night. Every time they cut to him he was smiling, his wife was smiling, he was working the room, but not too arrogantly. He was working Tom Hanks. Smart. Hanks is on the Academy’s Board of Governors. McConaughey is playing well. Strategy. And he even admitted as much when he got up on stage, explaining that he and Jim Toth (Reese Witherspoon’s husband) had a plan 3 years ago to redirect the career – and look where they are now. If he keeps this up, it’s not only Chiwetel who has no chance, he might even leave DiCaprio behind.
Leo prefers making his moves undercover though. Last night he was out with Harvey Weinstein after the show. Thing is, Leo’s going to have more chances. Many, many more chances. How many more will McConaughey get though? Well, probably still more than Chiwetel Ejiofor.
