Last Friday, ahead of the Super Bowl, I wrote that I spend a lot of time wondering what Beyoncé is up to. Click here for a refresher. Since Saturday, when she gave us the Formation, I spend even more time wondering what Beyoncé is up to. I know I am not alone. Yesterday NPR posted a piece called “Not Ready To Stop Obsessing Over Beyoncé And Formation? We Got You”. Click here to read it. And there’s also this post, about the making of the Formation video, with commentary from production designer Ethan Tobman about what it’s like to work with Beysus and a note at the end...
"There were larger reasons for this video coming out when it did and that will become obvious in the weeks to come."
Of course there are. Of course it will. It’s Beyoncé. There’s always a plan. There’s always a purpose. She’s been quiet for almost two years. So that when she finally has something to say, everyone’s paying attention. And, well, just simply paying. I paid for my Formation Tour tickets yesterday during the pre-sale. It was several hours of pure stress. Sasha wrote at one point that our group text had become a support service. Then the anxiety disappeared as soon as we secured our seats. Like we were f-cking grateful to Beyoncé after having just spent money on her. Yep. We are seeing Beyoncé in the Time of Beyoncé.

Deadpool opens on Friday. So does Zoolander 2. Promotion has been heavy on both movies. Ryan Reynolds, in particular, has been hustling like we’ve never seen him hustle. And without being gross about it. He’s doing his job and he looks like he’s having a great time doing his job. Full Story

Liam Neeson blind riddling himself generated more response yesterday – at least on my site – than Tom Hardy’s dick. What a great, unintentional, accidental publicity stunt. You think Rita Ora’s calling Liam now? Who is Liam Neeson’s “incredibly famous” secret girlfriend? My guess, based on nothing, was Nigella Lawson. Full Story
Award season roundtables are all the rage now, and Vulture is getting in on the action with a roundtable discussion featuring eight Oscar nominees, including Alicia Vikander, Bryan Cranston, and screenwriting nominees Phyllis Nagy (Carol) and Andrea Berloff (Straight Outta Compton). During the discussion, the importance of nominations came up, particularly, how they impact careers. Full Story
Dear Gossips,Zayn Malik has achieved what One Direction couldn’t: Pillowtalk is #1 in its first week on the Billboard Hot 100. Part of that, of course, has to do with One Direction fan support, certainly. But a lot of it is how he’s managed his profile the last couple of months. Read Full Intro
Yesterday the Mischievous Monkey killed my laptop and my productivity. I have a new laptop. But I’m still sorry. And I’d like to make it up to you. So I bought you something. Tom Hardy was not at the Oscar Nominees Luncheon yesterday to no one’s surprise, really. While he and Leo are in the same movie, their approach to award season is totally different. Full Story

Liam Neeson recently spoke with The Irish Independent. He was asked about his Valentine’s Day plans. And then he decided to give us a blind riddle. Part of me thinks he’s trolling us. But I like this game. Apparently he has a girlfriend: “I’d embarrass her if I said her name, she’s incredibly famous. Full Story

While Sly Stallone was celebrating his Oscar nomination, his director, Ryan Coogler, who was not recognised by the Academy, was at the AARP Awards as Creed was named Best Intergenerational Movie. How’s that for diversity? He not only gave us a new Rocky, with a black future, but also represented maturity – which is not typically a treasured quality in Hollywood. Full Story

You’re looking at what could be the Best Supporting Actor and Actress at the Oscars on February 28th. Sly seems to be in the lead right now in his race but there could still be a surprise. Full Story
