Yesterday it was reported that Katherine Heigl will replace KaDee Strickland in a pilot about sexy lawyers who lawyer while having sexy sex. The show is called Doubt, which, I can’t believe THAT is the best title someone can come up with for a show about lawyers. It’s one step away from just calling the show LAWYERS! Anyway, the pilot is filming for CBS and the leads are being recast, with Heigl taking the female lead, Sadie, a “smart, chic” attorney who bones her criminal defense client. Full Story

Anne Hathaway has signed onto a limited TV series called The Ambassador’s Wife. Adapted from a novel by Jennifer Steil, it’s about a woman who is kidnapped in the Middle East. If this were 1982 I’d say it would be a derivative bodice-ripper full of dashing sheikhs and sexually repressed white women, but since it’s 2015 I assume this will be depressing as sh*t and attempt to make us think about Who Is The Real Enemy, Anyway, and What Is War, And Why Do We Have It? The logline reminds me of Maggie Gyllenhaal’s recent miniseries, The Honorable Woman, which is set in Israel/Palestine and is really good, but is also depressing as sh*t, and attempts to make us think about Who Is The Real Enemy, et cetera. Full Story

Entertainment Weekly has an exclusive on The Voice ahead of the upcoming season. I’ve never actually watched an episode. Might this year because I’m trying to Gossip Genie some chemistry between Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton. Anyway, in addition to an exclusive clip of the judges talking about why they’re excited for the show and what it means to them, there’s this promo photo…  Full Story

Kalicia-gate goes on

A few months ago, Duana wrote about The Good Wife season finale, and Kalinda/Archie Panjabi’s final episode – click here for a refresher. What I particularly loved about Duana’s take on it wasn’t just the analysis of Kalicia-gate (Archie and Julianna Margulies had not appeared in a scene together for 3 seasons, including the final bar scene), but that she spoke to how much the lack of interaction between the characters affected the storylines and the dramatic elements that make for good TV. Full Story

Trevor Noah takes his seat

Trevor Noah’s tenure as host of The Daily Show begins on September 28, and Comedy Central has released the first teaser for the new era, showing Noah taking his seat on the revamped set with the tagline “Same seat, different ass” as Kanye West’s “Power” plays. It’s a good enough ad, especially with Noah’s funny-cute ass wiggle, but what really sticks out is how young Noah is—he’s 31, Jon Stewart was 37 when began hosting. Full Story

It was announced yesterday that Selena Gomez will guest on The Voice as an advisor on Gwen Stefani’s team when the new season starts next month. Makes sense. Her album, Revival, comes out October 9. Rihanna has also been confirmed as an advisor without allegiances. This is why people think R8 will finally be out in the fall too. Full Story

Justin Theroux was papped at LAX yesterday, first shots of him after the honeymoon. As you know, he and Jennifer Aniston spent it with friends in Bora Bora. They came back a few days ago and he’s now off again for work wearing his new ring and a ballin’ gold watch. Under some light it actually looks rose-gold, at least to me. Full Story

If you’ve been reading this site a while, you know my affection for Winona Ryder. I love her a LOT. And if you scroll down a few bars and look at my Five List, you know my affection for Oscar Isaac. I lust him a LOT. They were together yesterday to promote HBO’s Show Me A Hero, debuting this Sunday, the first two of six parts, airing over the next 3 weeks now that True Detective You Suck Season 2 is over. Full Story

UnREAL Season 1 review: Totally Worth It

TV fatigue: it’s real. There is too much good television that it becomes overwhelming to choose a show, because no one can possibly watch everything. We become paralyzed with indecision and no one wants to give their time to a creative flop (ahem, True Detective season 2) or miss out on a prestigious (if less popular and buzzy) drama like The Americans. Full Story

Stand-up comedy has changed quite a bit over the last fifteen years, thanks entirely to the internet, but one thing that remains the same is the HBO one hour special. That’s the golden benchmark for “you made it” for a lot of comedians, which Amy Schumer alludes to in the trailer for her upcoming one hour HBO special. Full Story

We’ll start here – which is what was supposed to be the only news story about Ben Affleck last night and today, and for a change, a good news story. The premiere of Project Greenlight season 4, The Leisure Class for HBO, a project that Ben and his bff, Matt Damon, have worked on together for many years. Full Story

Stephen Colbert’s fitting ending, new beginning with George Clooney

Of all the people who showed up to wish Jon Stewart farewell, Stephen Colbert’s heartfelt goodbye was the best tribute of the night. He’s arguably the most successful of the Daily Show alums, and he was the last of the former correspondents to come out and say goodbye to Stewart, using an elaborate Lord of the Rings metaphor and the blowhard persona he developed on The Daily Show. Full Story

Jon Stewart signed off on The Daily Show last night, which, barring a surprise retirement from Conan O’Brien, ends a period of turnover in late night television. Over the last few years, all the long-time late night hosts have retired—except for Conan, who not for nothing has always drawn a younger audience than his peers—from Leno, whom no one misses; to Colbert Full Story

Drake’s Degrassi reunion

Drake has a lot of cache. Especially now, in Toronto, and in the wake of this lopsided Meek Mill feud. So when he chooses to make his first public appearance since his OVO Fest domination at the We Are Disorderly webseries premiere at home last night, it matters. Full Story
