10 years of 8 Mile
God, it’s been 10 years. Where did that go? I wonder though, in this environment, if 8 Mile would even get made now. 8 Mile took everyone by surprise. Come on, admit it. 8 Mile was a lot better than you thought it would be. 8 Mile is GREAT. 8 Mile is still watchable, over and over and over again. And 8 Mile was a star-maker too. I always forget Anthony Mackie was in 8 Mile. And Michael Shannon! But for the second week in a row, there’s an anniversary celebration for a Brittany Murphy movie. Can you believe it’s been almost 3 years since she died?
To commemorate the 10th anniversary of 8 Mile, VIBE’s new issue features an interview with the reclusive Eminem alongside castmates Mekhi Phifer, Anthony Mackie, Evan Jones, and Omar Benson Miller. I won’t spoil it with excerpts because it’s a good read whether or not you’re a fan of the movie but I will say I LOVE the part about them blowing their per diem on strippers. How often do you read an article about actors talking about per diem?! Per diem is a preoccupation of the economy class.
And yes, admittedly, I partly care about all of this because of Eminem. I have an Eminem problem. If you’ve been reading this blog long enough, you know it’s more than just a Five List. With Eminem, I’d even go out in daylight. And he was hot in 8 Mile. Check the way he looks at Brittany Murphy at the end of this clip below, right before they did it in a warehouse standing up during his lunch break. That scene, in all its depravity, perhaps because of it, still turns me on, more than any passage in Fifty Shades Of Grey.
