Prospera is busy
Have a look at Helen Mirren yesterday on the New York set of Arthur starring Russell Brand. She plays his nanny or something. Now that is not a Lara Flynn Boyle face, is it? I see age on that face. A LOT of age. And is age a bad thing?
Well, let’s consider what’s going on with Helen Mirren.
She has a great life. She has a lot of love. She is happily married. And she works so much. So much more than Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Kate Beckinsale, she works more than most of the young and gorgeous and wrinkle-free. During festival and award season this fall, it’ll be Mirren who will be everywhere – at TIFF with Brighton Rock, and in theatres with 3 major releases.
Helen can soon be seen in The Debt alongside Sam Worthington and Tom Wilkinson and opposite Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, and John Malkovich in the much buzzed RED which lit up the geeks at Comic-Con a couple of weeks ago. Have you seen the trailer? The trailer is amazing.
And then of course there’s The Tempest. More specifically, JULIE TAYMOR’s Tempest. You know Taymor’s signature artistry. And in her imagining, Prospero becomes Prospera, as the inspirational Helen Mirren gender changes Shakespeare’s character, a heroine for the cinema, in a spectacle that will close the Venice Film Festival and then take its position at the centrepiece of the New York Film Festival in October to a well cultured theatre audience, before making its wide release in December, just in time for awards season.
Yeah, that’s Helen Mirren. She just turned 65 and totally looks it.
PS. That scene when Willis gets out of the speeding car and starts shooting right away is f-cking badass. I can’t for this so hard.
