Julia Roberts in all her glory. Toothy grin? Check. Flowing red hair? Check. Glassy eyes? Check. I can practically hear the honking goose laugh through my computer screen. #IBDL Day 20: America's sweetheart Julia Roberts on the cover of the 1993 October issue. She was first named to the list in 1990. Photograph by Herb Ritts. Full Story

O had some big smiles on last night, and why not, at first? She was going to see her film recognized for its achievements, even if the academy considered them perhaps smaller than she did, and frankly, she was going to go be Oprah in public, which is something she loves. Everything was fine until Neil Patrick Harris made a crack about how Oprah is the equivalent of the box office revenue of American Sniper. Full Story

Could you sense it? You could sense it, right? There was an unspoken discomfort agitating underneath the Critics’ Choice Awards last night. Jessica Chastain, when accepting the first ever MVP Award, was the one who came closest to addressing it. She encouraged her peers to speak up about the lack of diversity… But it’s not like she came out and openly criticised what was missing from the Oscar nominations that morning, Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday. Oprah looked great and glam, like she always looks great and glam. I appreciate fully that she is at the point now, not unlike Meryl, where she’s like ‘you know what, I’m not messing with my look anymore. We do what works’. I do wish, though, that we’d been able to look at someone else. Full Story
Oprah Winfrey went to a luxury goods store in Switzerland and wanted to look at a very expensive bag. She says the salesperson refused her service because “that one’s too expensive”, suggesting that the clerk assumed that Opes, being black, couldn’t afford the tote. The story made headlines everywhere last week prompting an apology from Swiss tourism and the store owner. Now the woman who denied O is insisting that it never went down that way. That she was totally professional and not racist and that the Opes is lying. Conservative members of the media are backing this claim, positing that Opes made it all up so that she could promote her movie, The Butler. And besides, how is it possible that Opes would go unnoticed?

It's been a week since Lindsay Lohan was let out of rehab. In almost every article published after her release, Lohan has been described as "happy and healthy". Check her out in New York yesterday being followed around by Oprah's cameras for that reality series that will air on OWN. Full Story
Oprah’s exclusive interview with Lindsay Lohan will air on OWN on August 18. Preview clips are now being released. I’ve attached the first one below.
As I wrote at the time of the Mighty O’s sit-down with Lance Armstrong, O’s problem isn’t the first question. Anyone can ask a first tough question. And anyone can prepare for a first tough question, a list of tough questions. O’s weakness is the follow-up. She just doesn’t. This is why Armstrong chose her. He went to Oprah in part because Oprah would be easier than anyone else. Lindsay Lohan can come up with a response that sounds good but means actually nothing. She is an accomplished liar. Lindsay Lohan has always known how to say “the right things”. Lindsay Lohan’s issue is that she doesn’t DO the right thing. So while Oprah will certainly elicit tears from Lohan, what she’ll really get is more excuses. What she won’t get, because she can’t push for it, is the truth.

Mighty Oprah Winfrey has felt a lot less … mighty these days, hasn’t she? On Friday, Oprah abruptly fired CAA and her agent Kevin Huvane, who is incredibly powerful in his own right. His past and present roster includes Meryl Streep, Penelope Cruz, Jennifer Aniston, Sandra Bullock, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Keanu Reeves, Nicole Kidman, Clive Own, Sarah Jessica Parker, Uma Thurman, Renee Zellwegger, Julianne Moore and Ethan Hawke, and, as many of you know, his brother is publicist Stephen Huvane (Jennifer Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Hathaway, and more).
