Check out my #1, Oscar Isaac, at an event in New York earlier this week. Oscar’s been working on Star Wars VII. Before that he was shooting A Most Violent Year, scheduled for release in November, with some talk of possible award season inclusion. Yesterday it was announced that Oscar will star in the upcoming HBO miniseries Show Me A Hero based on the true story of Nick Wasicsko who was, in the late 80s, then the youngest mayor in America. Full Story

Guys…what’s the problem? Seriously. Yesterday there was an announcement about Allison Williams playing Peter Pan in NBC’s live staging of the musical (you remember ‘The Sound of Music’ last year, right?) and immediately there was a massive storm on Twitter and the mainstream media was picking it up and the more I looked, the more my early suspicions were confirmed – it was about nothing. Full Story

Lea Michele continues to work on Sons Of Anarchy. Here she is shooting a scene with Katey Sagal yesterday. As I wrote earlier this week, with the imminent conclusion of Glee, Lea’s professional strategy seems to be an image change. This is not Rachel Berry hanging out with Gemma Teller Morrow. Full Story

THR reported yesterday that Mrs Timberlake has signed on to guest-star in an episode of New Girl next season. She’ll play a girl called Kat, described as “the hottest scientist in the world”, who’s an obstacle to Zooey Deschanel’s character when they’re all at a wedding trying to hook up. Full Story

No, it’s not for Better Call Saul (but can I just say this is looking more and more promising every day?), it’s for a new Netflix animated series for grown-ups, BoJack Horseman. Aaron is an executive producer, along with Will Arnett. Full Story

True Blood’s Jessica levels up to Daredevil

I haven’t watched True Blood in years (has anyone?), but the last I saw of it Jessica was one of the last good things going on that show. So it makes me happy that Deborah Ann Woll, who actually made that mess watchable, is moving on to bigger and better things as True Blood winds to a close. Full Story

A female Thor, but not for the movies

I don’t want to discount the importance of Marvel choosing to reimagine Thor as a woman for a new comic book run. It’s important that kids—any kid—looks at the characters we deem heroic and see themselves reflected back, and Marvel Comics has been diligent about diversifying their superheroes over the years. Full Story

Last night (former) SNL castmember Brooks Wheelan tweeted this funny and self-deprecating annoucement:   Had a blast and loved every second of it. I'm totally honored to be able to make this next joke... FIRED FROM NEW YORK IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT! — Brooks Wheelan (@brookswheelan) July 14, 2014 Full Story

Katherine Heigl is promoting her new show State Of Affairs. She and her mother are both producers on the show. So at the TCAs this weekend, while the entire panel was on stage fielding questions, a critic stepped up and asked her about her reputation – that she’s difficult to work with, that she and her mother come as a package deal and have alienated many people in the business, which is why her career has been in the sh-ts for a couple of years. Full Story

Taylor Kitsch was in Brazil for the World Cup. On Friday it was widely reported that he and Colin Farrell are being considered for the second season of True Detective. It’d be a great career move for both – particularly Kitsch who did well on HBO’s The Normal Heart and could use some television stabilising after a rough attempt at the movies. Full Story

Justin Theroux covers the new issue of DETAILS to promote The Leftovers. Have you been watching? It’s a slow burn for me so it’s not like I’m rushing to make it through the screeners but at the same time, I’m not putting it at the bottom of the pile either. The article is a good read. Full Story

My first thought, obviously, when I saw the nominations, was rage.  The second was that this was the same exact nomination list – and nomination snubs – as last year. So I went to look at my article from last year (click here for a refresher) and well, I don’t know where I got off being so sanguine about the whole thing, all laissez-faire oh-well doesn’t matter. Full Story
