The Television Critics Association announced their awards yesterday in Beverly Hills. The results are much different than what the Emmys will be in September. The Emmy nominations did not include Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany. The TCA gave Maslany the Individual Achievement in Drama award. If you watch Orphan Black, this is a fist-pump moment. Maslany is a revelation. I don’t see any pictures of her at the event but here she is at Comic-Con a couple of weeks ago.

Outstanding Achievement in Drama went to Game Of Thrones; the Khaleesi and Jon Snow were there to collect the honour. Game Of Thrones has been nominated for several Emmy Awards, as it was last year, losing eventually to Homeland. This year it’s up against Homeland again, House Of Cards, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and f-cking Downton Abbey. I’m not sure the Academy understands the sh-t that goes down in Westeros. And besides, coming in second to Breaking Bad is nothing to be ashamed of. But Breaking Bad has never won the Emmy for Best Drama. Will that change as we approach the conclusion? The TCA gave it the Program of the Year award. Bryan Cranston was there to accept.

In the comedy category – YES for Parks & Recreation. But the show shared the Outstanding Achievement in Comedy award with The Big Bang Theory. I am trying not to give myself an aneurysm with all the eyerolling. Parks & Rec, by the way, wasn’t even nominated for an Emmy for Best Comedy.  So, you know, there’s that.
