Sell baby sell!
Because it’s apparently going to be a very, very, very hard sell.
Will Smith has taken his Seven Pounds promotional tour to New York on Good Morning America yesterday and Letterman last night and it looks like he’ll have to turn on the charm extra bright because his movie is getting straight up eviscerated by the critics.
“Intricately constructed so as to infuriate anyone predominantly guided by rationality and intellect.” – Variety
“Frankly, though, I don’t see how any review could really spoil what may be among the most transcendently, eye-poppingly, call-your-friend-ranting-in-the-middle-of-the-night-just-to-go-over-it-one-more-time crazily awful motion pictures ever made. I would tell you to go out and see it for yourself, but you might take that as a recommendation rather than a plea for corroboration.” – New York Times
I wrote yesterday that in a very busy movie season, Seven Pounds for me is at the bottom of the list, a definitely wait for DVD rental. Sounds about right.
But the NY Times review did point out a very interesting trend: it’s the roles Will has been taking. He’s either the saviour or the superhuman, the messiah, the hero, the uberbeing… and almost always asexual.
Oh chills. Chills, chills, chills.
