Marvel is wishlisting Saoirse Ronan
And why wouldn’t they? She’s talented and has carved out a niche playing tough but vulnerable kids, and she has proven action capabilities (see also: Hanna). A superhero role seems like the next natural step, right? But Marvel is going beyond just putting a name on a top ten list—they’re prototyping Full Story
Between Katniss and Tris
Back in March 2011 I reported exclusively that Jennifer Lawrence was the first choice to play Katniss in The Hunger Games. At one point however, they were also interested in Saoirse Ronan, particularly after her performance in Hanna (click here for a refresher) but that she would have to really, REALLY dazzle producers to take the job away. Summer Saoirse
Written by Sarah Do you know how long it took me to master pronouncing “Saoirse”? I keep wanting to say “Cerise”. Seer-shuh. I have to keep repeating it to myself whenever I see her name. Seer-shuh. Saoirse Ronan is rapidly becoming one of my favorite young actresses. Full Story
Saoirse Ronan enters the Black Hole of Taste
Written by Sarah I think you all understand my disdain for the Twilight Saga as “literature”, and that I hold the movies to be only slightly better at best. I have zero respect for Stephenie Meyer as a writer. One of the few times I’ve ever been in synch with Oprah was when she had Meyer on her show and proceeded to treat Meyer like a housewife who won the lottery (which, basically, she did). Full Story
17-off at the Met: Dakota & Saoirse
I suppose, if there’s anyone who could get away with the Valentino flower tulle explosion worn by Dakota Fanning at the Met Gala it was probably Dakota Fanning. She’s 17. Prom is still within the parametres of her actual experience. But f-ck is this thing ever ugly. And you have to wonder – did they really design this for 18 and under? I don’t think so. Full Story
Saoirse’s blue shoes
Saoirse Ronan was in New York yesterday promoting Hanna. As I noted yesterday in the Cate Blanchett post, Hanna opens on Friday and you’re totally seeing it, right? The star of course of Hanna is Saoirse. And Saoirse’s performance is so impressive, she had Lionsgate on pause on Jennifer Lawrence for Katniss in The Hunger Games – click here Full Story
Young vs. old Hunger Games
Written by Sarah I’ve been saying for the past year that sixteen-year-old Saorise Ronan should be Katniss, and after seeing her in True Grit, I also thought that fourteen-year-old Hailee Steinfeld would also make a good Katniss. Full Story
Katniss casting update
Exclusive I was the first to report yesterday that Jennifer Lawrence has emerged as the frontrunner for the role of Katniss in the film adaptation of The Hunger Games. Several hours later, just before the end of the business day, Variety posted the same, confirming my initial story that Lawrence has indeed “generated the most interest” even though they listed Hailee Steinfeld and Abigail Breslin as possible contenders too. Now this is a trailer: Hanna edition
I know. It’s one of my common refrains. That there is an art to cutting movie trailers and most of the time, Hollywood doesn’t give a sh-t. Which is why when a really, really great one comes along, it’s something to fist pump about. The film is Hanna, due in theatres in April, starring the always sublime Cate Blanchett and a surprisingly enigmatic Eric Bana. Full Story
2 & 4 together
How will I focus the rest of the day? Jim Sturgess and Colin Farrell, numbers 2 and 4 on my Five List, just showed up together at a presser for The Way Back in London. They did not pose side by side. In a way I’m thankful for it. Remember last week when Ryan Gosling and Jake Gyllenhaal stood next to each other and exploded your lady business? This can be dangerous, non? Here’s an example of how Quiver can take on different forms. Full Story
Saoirse in green and as Katniss?
Acclaimed young actress Saoirse Ronan attended the Irish premiere of Shrek yesterday in a pair of steezy pink chucks with a blazer, topped off with light green Ray-Bans which obviously I love because I have them too. (Photo attached from Barbados) Saoirse, now 16, is always at the top of the list for discussion on who should play Katniss Everdeen in Suzanne Collins’s The Hunger Games film adaptation. Full Story
Saoirse is versatile
Lovely Saoirse Ronan is still promoting The Lovely Bones which, after a pushed back release, hasn’t been performing too badly. Obviously not the awards bait it was predicted to be last summer after critical annihilation but with a revamped marketing strategy focusing on teen girls, Bones isn’t a complete bust financially, and sometimes that’s all that matters.
