Award Season Campaigning Articles
Jennifer Aniston stepped out yesterday for lunch after it was reported that her film, Cake, will be released for a week in order to be considered for award season. Many took that to mean that she’s making a push for Oscar and as Joanna pointed out in her post – click here for a refresher – that’s probably a stretch… although, hey, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is much kinder (or discerning, depending on how you see it).

Matthew McConaughey received the American Cinematheque Award last night in Hollywood and it was a strong turnout. The timing is great too. Not only because he’s winning everything (but the Emmy), but also because Interstellar comes out soon, one of most highly anticipated films of the year. Of over a year. Full Story
A box office win for Brad Pitt’s Fury. Fury’s performance this weekend just made it an Oscar conversation so Part 1 of Brange’s road to Oscar seems to have been accomplished. The rest is up to Unbroken.
As you know, Brad put in some work and hustle to promote this film. When they want, they can sell these two. And I wonder what we’ll be saying, just over 6 months from now, when the Oscar red carpet has been put away, about their campaign and how it started. On August 23, at their wedding. Too cynical? Oh come on. From this perspective it’s a compliment. On strategy they have no equal in Hollywood right now.
On the subject of this weekend’s box office…

Eddie Redmayne was front row at the Alexander Wang H&M Collection launch in New York last night. (Sasha was there too, covering it for etalk. I was jealous. Wang is… goddamn, he is something to look at. The clothes, sure. But his FACE!) If I’m a designer, Eddie Redmayne is at the top of the list of male celebrities I’d want to be there. Full Story

It’s mid-October, which means that award season is in full swing, and as such the actors starring in award bait are beginning to lay the foundation of their Oscar campaigns. We’re still over a month away from Benedict Cumberbatch’s The Imitation Game opening in the US, but he’s got a profile in Out in support of the film. Full Story
The BFI London Film Festival is underway and one of England’s proudest achievements this year is The Imitation Game, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Keira Knightley. The press conference and photo call happened today. Keira’s dress… F-ck. It’s ALWAYS Keira’s dress, isn’t it? Valentino, red, pleats, pockets, perfect. Full Story
Here's Bradley Cooper arriving in London. Hair's getting long. Since the American Sniper trailer came out people have now added it to the Oscar long list of contenders. That happens any time Clint Eastwood directs a movie. He's not young anymore, that guy. And it'll be his second directorial release this year. Full Story

Sienna Miller supported her partner Tom Sturridge at the London premiere of Effie Gray this weekend in London. Great print on that dress. They seem happy and relaxed together. Not that it’s any of my goddamn business but I’m relieved to see that. Professionally, it’s not a good time for Sienna to get restless. Full Story
Benedict Cumberbatch has a GREAT new interview with TimeOut London in which he talks about both his Oscar chances and the kingmaker grooming him for center stage. The Batch is always an interesting interview for several reasons: 1) He’s 38 and fame came late-ish for him, striking in his mid-thirties after he’d had a chance to fully form—they’re better when it happens that way, as Lainey recently pointed out Full Story
