Award season roundtables are all the rage now, and Vulture is getting in on the action with a roundtable discussion featuring eight Oscar nominees, including Alicia Vikander, Bryan Cranston, and screenwriting nominees Phyllis Nagy (Carol) and Andrea Berloff (Straight Outta Compton). During the discussion, the importance of nominations came up, particularly, how they impact careers. Full Story

It’s done. Leonardo DiCaprio will win his first Oscar for being cold and snotty in The Revenant. By now his lead is pretty much insurmountable and, as Sarah noted a couple of weeks ago, the voters probably just want to get it over with so he stops trying to kill himself Full Story

Before the New Year, most Oscar prediction experts were in agreement that it would be Leonardo DiCaprio winning Best Actor. He will most likely win Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama at the Golden Globes on Sunday, because those dicksuckers at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association love him. But they don’t get a say at the Oscars. Full Story

We learned last week following the SAG and Golden Globe nominations that, right now, Bryan Cranston could be a legitimate challenger to Leonardo DiCaprio for Best Actor. Trumbo will play well to those old f-ckers in the Academy and Bryan Cranston is very, very well liked among his peers. Also consider the EGOT factor. Full Story

No Johnny Depp. Unlike the Screen Actors Guild, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association went with Will Smith over Johnny Depp for the Golden Globes. They’re starf-ckers, as you know, the HFPA. But between the stars to f-ck, they chose Will even though they’ve made a joke of themselves in the past by nominating Johnny for The Tourist, remember that? I don’t know if that’s going to carry through to the Oscars, but what’s important to note here is that a formidable challenger has emerged for Leonardo DiCaprio. Full Story

Leonardo DiCaprio, one step closer. As expected, he secured a Screen Actors Guild Nomination today for Best Actor along with Johnny Depp, Michael Fassbender, and Eddie Redmayne. As for that fifth spot… Bryan Cranston over Matt Damon and Will Smith. SAG loves Bryan Cranston. They’ve awarded him for Walter White and Breaking Bad. Full Story

Bryan Cranston is so charming. It’s his Tim Whatley smile. It’s his slick delivery. Bryan was on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last night to promote Trumbo, which comes out this week. I reviewed Trumbo at TIFF and wrote that while Bryan played a sly smooth-talking screenwriter as well as he could have, the film was too superficial to be the communist/Cold War caper it was meant to be. Full Story

(Lainey: a new trailer for Trumbo was released yesterday. Some people think Bryan Cranston could be a contender. He’s so well liked in Hollywood. And he would be the answer if voters don’t want to reward Eddie Redmayne two years in a row, can’t stand Johnny Depp, continue to deny Leo, and if Fassbender won’t play. Full Story

The Emmys are on Monday and it’s always a good show, right? It’s not as loose as the Globes, but the TV stars aren’t hidden in the back for that long, sheepish walk up to the podium. For one night, they are all George Clooney. To create some buzz, the Television Academy released Barely Legal Pawn Full Story

We’re five weeks out from the new Godzilla hitting theaters and we’ve got a new extended trailer that gives us some context for the stuff we’ve already seen. Like, for instance, why exactly Bryan Cranston is so damned scared, and a little bit about the possible origin/awakening of Godzilla. Full Story

Bryan Cranston not being cast as Lex Luthor broke the internet’s heart, but if anything can heal us and end our long electrical nightmare, it’s Bryan Cranston being the hero of the new Godzilla remake. As if I wasn’t already stoked Full Story
