Oooh some girlsh-t drama in the Best Original Song category. Linda Perry, a very respected and seasoned singer-songwriter/producer, thinks Gaga was given songwriting credit on “’Til It Happens to You” to secure the Oscar nomination and her promotional support. It’s not an outlandish claim – it’s strategizing like we’ve seen in the other categories. Full Story

Jonah Hill is a 2 time Oscar nominee. He’s friends with Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese, and Brange. He writes films. He’s supposed to know good writing. He’s supposed to know what’s funny. He’s supposed to know, MORE THAN YOU, what’s funny and what’s not funny. Full Story
In the previous post about Mark Wahlberg, I mentioned that there are two names that will always elicit screams from our audience at The Social. Channing Tatum is the other one. You just have to say “Channing Tatum” and people lose their f-cking minds. Now this I can support. Channing Tatum deserves it. Full Story
George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson, Josh Brolin, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Channing Tatum, Ralph Fiennes, Jonah Hill, directed by Joel and Ethan Cohen. It’s Hail, Caesar! Set during the Golden Age of Hollywood about the hapless movie star, the biggest movie star in the world, played by George Clooney, of course, who gets kidnapped and Ray Donovan of the 1950s has to get him back by enlisting the help of everyone else in the business…before the gossip columnist gets hold of the story. At Comic-Con The Hollywood Reporter gathered the casts of Batman vs Superman and Suicide Squad and sat them down for a class portrait that reinforces what I said about the dynamics during the WB/DC Hall H panel—while the Suicide Squad cast seems fun, the cast of Superhero Face Punch would really like to get back and finish their class project. I was not expecting to like Magic Mike XXL, let alone love it, but I do kind of love it. What I like about Magic Mike is that it looks like a smutty movie but really it’s about the frustration of the American Dream, although based on the number of times Lainey has complained about Magic Mike being too talky, I think I may be alone in appreciating that it’s actually a fairly character-driven film. Magic Mike vs Terminator this weekend at the box office – which way are you going? Here are some interesting comparisons:
Magic Mike XXL was made for just under $15 million while Terminator Genisys cost $155 million. For Channing Tatum, then, it’s really not that much pressure compared to the other guy. According to Deadline, last night at screenings of Magic Mike XXL across the US “96% of Magic Mike XXL‘s audience was comprised of females — that’s the biggest female share ever”. And of that number, 34% of fans were there for Channing Tatum. I can understand this. He’s one of the reasons I’ll be going at some point too. Because I do enjoy, so much, watching him dance. And also, I just like him so much. Another reason? Magic Mike is one of those movies that you don’t have to worry about missing any dialogue during the hootin’ and the hollerin’. It’s a form of relaxation isn’t it? Listening to people requires so much more energy.
Have a great weekend!

SCOTUS has just ruled in favour of same sex marriage. The Hollywood Reporter posted a story yesterday about Hollywood’s “stromos”, identifying a Hollywood trend among straight actors appealing to the gay audience: Today's stromos are the flip side of gay actors who want to read straight for their careers: They are straight actors striving to read gayish to optimize their appeal — and maximize the number of butts, gym-molded or otherwise, in movie theater seats.
