Just ignore the talky parts

I was on The Marilyn Dennis Show yesterday talking about summer movies. It’s a predominantly female audience. When Marilyn asked me about Magic Mike I was like...

I mean, do you really need to know what it’s about?

Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey, Alex Pettyfer, and the big wolf from True Blood take their shirts off. Most of the people going to see that movie aren’t paying to pay attention to the talky parts.

Let me say this again about Channing Tatum and the difference between him and Jessica Biel for the benefit of those who’d defend Jessica Biel on the basis of “why are you so down on her for wanting better?” It’s the American Idol thing. People need to know where they live. Most people don’t live on stage like Mariah Carey. Jessica Biel doesn’t live in Meryl Streep’s world. But she keeps fronting like she belongs there.

Channing Tatum?

Channing Tatum, as I’ve noted before, isn’t performing on Broadway in Death Of A Salesman. Channing Tatum is showing you his chest. Sometimes it’s oiled up. Sometimes it’s wet as he comes off a surfboard. Channing Tatum understands his limitations and plays up to his, ahem, gifts. He’s doing a really good job at what he’s good at. The minute Channing Tatum decides to challenge Daniel Day Lewis, maybe then we can have that discussion. (Oh hi Justin Timberlake!) But for now, he’s the dude on a winning streak in Hollywood. And Magic Mike just might extend that.

Gossip on Channing Tatum?

I don’t have anything sh-tty to report. What I can tell you is that he’s aware of what’s being said about him, good and bad, and doesn’t take offence to the bad, or hold grudges, and that he personally sends thank you gifts to people who’ve been kind to him. He’s really nice. So far he’s super humble. No dicky behavioural issues...

Unlike Jonah Hill.

I’ll get to that later.

Here are Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey at a Magic Mike screening yesterday in LA. Sarah from Cinesnark has been going balls out on a prediction that McConaughey’s on a big surge, maybe even an Oscar run. He does look good here, non?

The Magic Mike trailer is below. Frankly, it’s not my kind of movie. I like men better when they’re wearing the sh-t out of their clothes. Tatum produced this one though. I am curious about this. Are we looking at another Mark Wahlberg here.
