Swords replace phones
The Robin Hood promotional campaign begins. This is Russell Crowe in Spain today in remarkably good spirits – for him – at the photo call posing with a sword. Gimmicky but since he’s ordinarily such a truculent motherf-cker but it’s a refreshing side of him that we could stand to see more often. Besides, he’s in sell mode. And there is a lot of money riding on Robin Hood to say nothing of the notion that Russell Crowe might not be The Russell Crowe anymore. Which is why there’s a war weapon back in his hand instead of a telephone.
Remember when he clubbed a hotel clerk with a phone because he couldn’t reach his wife?
Dude. He CLUBBED a bitch with a phone!
He also threatened to kill a producer – allegedly – with his bare hands once on the set of Gladiator. This according to a new book about Dreamworks The Men Who Would Be King: An Almost Epic Tale of Moguls, Movies and a Company called DreamWorks. The producer was supposedly cheap and wasn’t paying his assistants a fair wage.
Russell also apparently wasn’t crazy about this famous line in Gladiator:
"And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next."
He thought it was over the top. He wasn’t down with the dramz but ended up doing it anyway because in his words:
"It was sh-t, but I'm the greatest actor in the world and I can make even sh-t sound good."
Crowe denies the claims. And he denied them... on Twitter!
Russell Crowe is on Twitter... I think. Click here to see. It is indeed a new Hollywood.
