A new Mad Max: Fury Road trailer was released yesterday. Whoever is cutting these previews needs an award. Because they get better, and better, and better. And each one is different. With a different purpose. But gives away just enough to make you impatient and not too much to make you indifferent. Full Story

Sometimes I just want to show you things. And we can think about it together. So Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy have been working on The Revenant. And they’ve grown closer, hanging out together off set, even in LA when they’re on break. Hey, look what a reader called Liz just emailed to me. Full Story

If you already have a Tom Hardy problem, this isn’t going to help. This will make it much, much worse. Here he is on the cover of UK Esquire. Some dudes, when they do the squinty eye thing, it doesn’t work, not at all. You don’t believe it. Like if there was actually cigarette smoke drifting across their faces, they wouldn’t hot-squint, their eyes would just water and they’d swat it away. Full Story

This Means War was on TV during the holidays. I watched the first half, with commercials. You know how some movies get better on television because you’re comfortable on the couch or in bed and your general sense of expectation is just a lot lower? Yeah, no. TV doesn’t make This Means War a better movie. Full Story

This will be the last post of 2014. It was a very difficult decision because Mimi’s camel toe has every right to the final flourish but… since that toe is from 2012 and this is brand new, the new wins. Tom Hardy covers EMPIRE Full Story

Sarah messaged me right when I was coming off The Social this afternoon OMGing about the new Mad Max trailer. I pressed play as soon as I got back to my desk and wrote her back: Holy sh-t. HOLY SH-T. This is the best looking and best sounding trailer I’ve seen in…years. Now just to go back for a minute to the Sony email leaks – it was widely reported that production on Mad Max was troubled. Full Story

Dear Gossips,

The Boston Society of Film Critics and the LA Film Critics Association both named Boyhood the best film of 2014 yesterday. So Boyhood and director Richard Linklater are well on their way to Oscar nominations. But, as Ritchie wrote in his email to me last night, it remains to be seen whether Boyhood ends up being The Hurt Locker or The Social Network. That said, what’s the 2014 version of The King’s Speech, the film that took down The Social Network? Well, The King’s Speech was a Harvey Weinstein-led campaign.  Read Full Intro

Last we heard of David Ayer’s DC villain flick, whether or not Harley Quinn, the nutjob supervillainess from the Batman comics, would be included was still up in the air, and Jared Leto was in talks to play The Joker (lesser version 2.0). Yesterday, Warner Brothers announced the Suicide Squad lineup and yes indeed, Harley Quinn is coming to the big screen, and she’ll be played by Margot Robbie. Full Story

Not going to lie… Tom Hardy might have peaked at TIFF too early. It was Friday night and Saturday morning. And he was followed by Cara Delevingne and The Riot Club boys and Eddie Redmayne and Andrew Garfield and my two fried laptops and Mike Tyson just lost his sh-t in our building on a news anchor and suddenly it’s Wednesday afternoon. Full Story

“When we save a dog, we save ourselves.” That’s a line from The Drop and you’ll hear it when you watch the clip below. I mentioned a British invasion at TIFF in the open. Tom Hardy is part of that. He arrived here in Toronto yesterday in advance of tonight’s premiere. Full Story

Dogs love Tom Hardy. It’s why he always seems to be surrounded by dogs. His own dog, Woodstock (or Woody), is always on set with him. When he’s on set, all kinds of little dogs show up for licks and pets. Look at that. They’re all over him and his dog musk. I’m not complaining. Full Story

Sarah has written at length about Comic-Con strategy – how often false hype can be generated out of San Diego (Sucker Punch) that ultimately leads to disappointment. But Comic-Con can also be a legitimate momentum build, especially for projects that seemed worrisome, projects that may have been burdened by the weight of expectation. Full Story

TIFF announced its first slate of films for this year’s festival September 4-14. It’s a big ass deal, not only because I live in Toronto and I work for etalk and we cover it top to bottom but because TIFF is where people come to kick off their campaigns. Full Story
