Idris Elba is in New York. Check him out, fine as f-ck, walking around in a red beanie yesterday. Earlier this week, Idris, Abraham Attah, and Cary Fukunaga were promoting Beasts Of No Nation at TimesTalks. Netflix is doing whatever they can to make these nominations happen. What didn’t happen is Idris being named the Sexiest Man Alive. Full Story

Oscar campaigning is well underway and, as previously mentioned, many contenders showed up at the Governors Awards as an opportunity to honour the Governors list recipients and get in front of Oscar voters. Among them – Cary Fukunaga, Idris Elba, and Abraham Attah representing Beasts Of No Nation. Full Story
Oh hi, good morning. New York Times profile on Cary Fukunaga, are you still with me or have you just lost yourself in this photo? Cary continues to promote Beasts Of No Nation. The film has been strongly reviewed. Netflix is launching an Oscar campaign behind it. It’s currently available on Netflix and opened in selected theatres but made no money, something he always expected. Full Story

Cary Fukunaga’s Beasts Of No Nation was screened at the Directors Guild Of America last night in LA as Netflix continues to push for award consideration. Abraham Attah was there to represent the cast but no Idris Elba – he’s probably still working on Star Trek, because otherwise, if not for scheduling conflicts, there’s no way he would miss time on the campaign circuit. I heard some industry folks at TIFF sh*t-talking Netflix for allegedly overpaying for Cary Fukunaga’s Beasts of No Nation, Netflix’s first original feature film. They were of the opinion that Netflix will keep overpaying for movies and go bust, but just a few years ago TV executives were saying the same thing, and now look where we are. Full Story

As mentioned several weeks before the start of TIFF, the Beasts Of No Nation carpet was the one big ask I put to our producers at etalk. The request was granted. On Sunday night I was in first position at the premiere. This was the 5th or 6th time I’ve interviewed Idris. Did I ever tell you that I once interviewed him and Charlie Hunnam together? Me, in a small room with Idris and Charlie. Full Story

The last time I was in Canada I gave Lainey the gears because Canada’s money seemed fake and like something from Monopoly. I went to the bank yesterday to get some fake Canada money for my trip to TIFF and somehow, despite redesigning the paper bills, it’s still adorably pretend board game money. Full Story

Venice Film Festival. Beasts Of No Nation photo call and gala. No Idris Elba but Cary Fukunaga was there yesterday with the film's lead actor, Abraham Attah. I'm good with Cary in a tux. I'm great with Cary in a henley, holy sh-t. The reviews for Beasts are now coming out of Venice. Full Story
How’s this for a pick me up? The new cover of Variety featuring… Cary Fukunaga and Idris Elba. And the good news is that we’re about to see a lot more of them. Cary is the director of Beasts Of No Nation. Idris is one of the stars. They’re taking the film on the festival circuit before it premieres on Netflix in October and then makes a run at Oscar. Dear Gossips,Sarah sent me an update last night on TIFF voting. As posted yesterday – click here for a refresher – she’s coming to Toronto for TIFF and we’re asking you to set her schedule: what films should she see/review? In the lead so far… Beasts Of No Nation, directed by Cary Fukunaga and starring Idris Elba. Read Full Intro
Needed this on a sh-tty day… Idris Elba covers Maxim. And they point out that he probably won’t be the next James Bond – right now it’s looking like it could be Damian Lewis because…I don’t know why. I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t think Idris Elba wouldn’t be a perfect Bond. Full Story
I read a headline this morning about Cary Fukunaga. He was supposed to direct the film adaptation of Stephen King’s It but has now dropped out over creative differences. Click here for more details. You remember Cary took over the Emmy Awards last year when he won for directing True Detective and everyone lost their minds because they saw his face.
So then I did an image search and it turns out I missed him at the MET Gala. With shorter hair. Two weeks before that he was at the Tribeca Film Festival though and the bun was intact. I think I might prefer the bun.
Welcome back from Memorial Day weekend to those of you in America. It was a full blog here yesterday so if you’re easing back into it, please scroll down to get caught up.

The Emmys mostly sucked. But it gave us something really, really great. Something we can all get hard over… Cary Joji Fukunaga. Christ Jesus, he’s hot. This is by design. He’s Jason Momoa without the grunts. He’s K-Pop without the hair perm. A model with a brain. And he’s been on this site before, back in 2011, when he was dating Michelle Williams, remember?
