The Maras at the CFDA Awards

Rooney Mara and Kate Mara were at the CFDA Awards last night in New York. Rooney posed with Francisco Costa. She wore Calvin Klein. Kate wore Dolce & Gabbana. I haven’t been able to find any photos of the sisters together. If you see one, let me know. Duana has been paying particularly close attention to the Maras recently, noting first that they were both at the MET Gala last month and there were no pictures either and picking up the audio on Kate’s voice during The Hollywood Reporter Drama Queens roundtable when she referred to her sister being an actor too -- click here Full Story
Gran in black leather

Thank you, Nicole Kidman. After Emma Watson’s rather underwhelming Cannes carpet appearance last night, Thursday at the festival was rather lacking in dress porn. But Gran came through in the evening at the IFP and Calvin Klein party in black leather that looks like it’s stripped along the side. Full Story
Best MET White: Rooney Mara

Some of you have written to me comparing Rooney Mara's white Givenchy to Victoria Beckham's glorified housecoat at this event in 2008. Click here for a refresher. Sort of. But this is infinitely superior, non? That zipper detail is amazing. Full Story
Rooney Mara is shyyyyyyyyyyyy, OK?

Rooney Mara and Jude Law are currently promoting Side Effects in Europe. Here they are yesterday at the Berlinale, photo call and premiere. She wore black and white Balenciaga for the daytime event, and black Valentino in the evening. Very strong styling. And smiling only with no teeth. Because as she told Vogue last month: “Why should I ‘fake smile’? It feels disingenuous to me. Full Story
Rooney and Romantic Ryan
We’re on a couples roll here today; the first 4 posts have been couples-related. And I really want to keep this going because I’m lame with the theme thing but this is totally a cheat because Rooney Mara and Ryan Gosling aren’t a real couple, they’re just playing one in a Terrence Malick movie shooting in Austin. This was supposed to be Blake
Here’s Aloof Rooney Mara in New York today working on Steven Soderbergh’s The Bitter Pill. She plays a woman who self-medicates in order to cope with her husband’s upcoming prison release. Her husband is Channing Tatum. Her psychiatrist is Jude Law.As you recall, Mara’s part was originally Blake Lively’s. Full Story
Aloof & Sister at the Oscars

Let me start with the dress...which I quite liked. It’s Givenchy. The back is awesome. And so well suited to her aesthetic. I just think she couldn’t hold it up, you know? Like carry it properly. Her body has a small part to do with that, sure, but mostly it’s the oh-please-I’d-rather-be-developing-a-character-with-David-Fincher body language that she’s wearing with it that undermines the creation. Aloof & Film School

Why haven't we sent this request to the Gossip Genie yet? The aloof Rooney Mara and James Franco Went To Film School - they're perfectly pretentious for each other. You like it? I like it. I love it. Or...how does Franco the Artist compare to David Fincher the Artist? Having tasted true genius - debatable, if you ask me - does Franco's amateur poetry lose its appeal? Here's Franco earlier this week at a screening for his My Own Private River, featuring footage of River Phoenix from My Own Private Idaho. Meryl gets Aloofed

With all the sh-t we’ve been throwing at Rooney Mara for her excessive “aloof”-ness, how much do you LOVE this photo of her aloofing (by photo assumption) Meryl Streep yesterday at the Oscar Nominees Luncheon? True story - I had people over the other night for the Super Bowl. My friend Fiona was cheering for the Giants because she likes the Mannings. Full Story

Blake Lively’s girl drama cost her a job

And I’m not down with that. Last week we talked about Blake Lively’s involvement in Steven Soderbergh’s new movie and how her casting as the lead caused a producer, the one with the money, to walk off the project. Click here for a refresher. The other producers then came out and said that Lively did not have the job in the bag after all and now today it’s being reported that the role went, in fact, to Rooney Mara. Full Story
Jessica Chastain is not Aloof

As I mentioned the other day, I’ve recently developed a (late) addiction to Veronica Mars. It’s amazing how many faces have passed through Veronica Mars. Jessica Chastain passed through Veronica Mars, did you know that? It was one episode, she played a victim and, in what’s promising to be a great career, it wasn’t very memorable. Full Story
You will get another Dragon Tattoo and YOU WILL LIKE IT
Wenn, Riccardo Cesari/Splash, TIZIANA FABI/Getty
First, I think we need stop saying that The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is some kind of big disappointment. Did it fail to dominate the holiday movie season? Yes. Is going to pass the hundred-million mark at the box office? Yes. Let’s call it even. After a lackluster opening, Dragon Tattoo has been a surprisingly steady performer for Sony, which is likely why they’re going ahead with the sequels, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest (the second option being sheer stubbornness). David Fincher movies

I was quick to jump on the US Girl With The Dragon Tattoo movie bandwagon after the first trailers were released. I was ready to love it. To be super impressed. To fangirl over a version that I initially labelled unnecessary. Then I saw it. Dragon Tattoo Girl For America is a solid B+. It’s good. It’s watchable. Full Story
