Diane & Josh: rings?
There are two things I never notice: pregnancy and wedding rings. You know how when you check someone out, there’s an unconscious but not really list that gets ticked off? For me, it’s always shoes, then hair, then skin, then I want to know about the body, how they look in those pants/skirt/dress, then I spend a few seconds judging the pants/skirt/dress, and at that point it’s impolite to keep staring so I look away and fixate on someone else. It’s never a priority to check for a bump or wedding band.
So thank you, so many of you, for pointing this out the other day after this post about Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson. They were wearing rings on those fingers at the airport. And last night, they were still wearing those rings at the premiere of Diane’s new movie Unknown opposite Liam Neeson and January Jones. Trailer is below. I’m not really feeling it.
As for Diane and Joshua… are they married?
If they are, they certainly don’t want to make it a thing. But she did also tell Glamour recently that:
“I was married very young [to French actor and director Guillaume Canet]. We were together seven years. Without sounding pessimistic, I learned that I don't believe in marriage. I believe in a commitment that you make in your heart. There's no paper that will make you stay. A guy friend of mine said, and it made a lot of sense, that people should get married at the end of the road, not the beginning.” (Source)
I don’t know…that sounds pretty definitive to me.
Can lovers wear rings without being officially married to denote their devotion to each other? She’s publicly declared that she intends to be his partner for life on several occasions. What difference would it make to you if they had a ceremony for it? How would that titillate you on a gossip level? It’s not like Hollywood marriages never end. It’s interesting to me, this question. Not as a judgment but an observation – that people, particularly women, don’t see these two, or others like them, as for real for real unless they’re husband and wife. Strangely, in many ways, these two are, to me, more for real for real than a lot of celebrities who are actually married. Just me? Let me know what you think.
