Love Happens was a critical and commercial bust. This is surprising. Because people love supporting sh-t. But not even Jennifer Aniston could make that sh-t work.
Undeterred by the failure of her most recent film, Jennifer is back on set of The Baster, resuming production after a break to shoot The Bounty with Gerard Butler.
The Baster is about a woman who gets test tube pregnant by her best friend. Then they fall in love. Or something. Whatever. The details don’t matter. What matters is that she’s making the same movie. Again. Formulaic, sappy, unimaginative…
So much so that she looks exactly the same every time.
Her characters they dress alike, they walk alike, they speak alike, she is Matthew McConaughey. He could play an Englishman and still have that Texas twang. And still Jennifer Aniston insists that she wants to break new artistic ground.
There was a brilliant article in Salon a few weeks ago deconstructing the Jennifer Aniston phenomenon examining the following riddle:
Jennifer Aniston's movies are middling. Her talent is questionable. Why can't we get enough of her?
The writer notes that Jen’s “gifts as an actress are in no way commensurate with the enormousness of her fame. Her major career accomplishments, to put it bluntly, are a rigorously toned body and a vast constellation of tabloid magazine covers.”
So…why Jennifer Aniston?
Because “she’s an endearing loser”.
And it gets worse.
